Most baby-name sites either paywall the deep history, hide it behind a quiz, or only show top-1000 lists. We show the long tail: even names that peaked once in 1907 in Wyoming have a page (try https://peekaname.com/random for a random one). On top of the raw data we also ship 11 free interactive tools — a tournament-style name bracket, an age guesser, a sibling finder, an era matcher, a trend predictor, and more — at https://peekaname.com/tools/.

What's the story behind your product?

My wife and I were name-hunting and ended up with 12 browser tabs open across different baby-name sites — every one of them paywalled the actually-interesting data behind a subscription, locked the regional breakdowns, or capped at top-1000 lists. The U.S. Social Security Administration releases the entire dataset for free, so I built https://peekaname.com to surface it cleanly: every name, every year, every state. Once we had the data loaded, the fun tools just kept following — https://peekaname.com/tools/era-matcher, https://peekaname.com/tools/predictor, https://peekaname.com/tools/compatibility, etc.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

https://peekaname.com runs on Astro 5 (SSR via @astrojs/node middleware mode) with a Hono API in the same Node.js process. Data layer is Drizzle ORM over better-sqlite3 — the entire 8.7M-row name dataset lives in a single 810 MB SQLite file in WAL mode, which keeps queries under 10 ms. Tailwind CSS 4 for styling. Everything runs in a single Docker container (300 MB memory limit) on a $6 VPS, fronted by Cloudflare for TLS, CDN, and bot mitigation.
