Yes u/Real_Delay this is something you can do. But Z-lib is now banned, if you want use it on Tor. If not, use pdfdrive.com or libgen.rs which have many books. Then convert it to MOBI or AWZ3 format ( Kindle accepts them both ). Then use it. I faced problems last time I tried few years back but check it out yourself. Source: about 3 years ago

I came across FBReader which looks great in principal, but it uses a Google Drive account to sync with no other options. Also it's no longer OSS from 2015 (which wouldn't have been a deal breaker for me). Source: about 4 years ago
