I am currently upgrading my old (2017) pc. Since I do not have any hard requirement for it (I just use it for gaming once in a while...) That tells you all of the core temps and package temp as well as all core thermal throttling status (yes/no). If temps are already high (circa 70/80 degrees) and/or thermal throttling status is yes then you have a problem. If you don't meet the above criteria use OCCT or CPUZ to stress/bench test with HWINFO already open and see if temps get high or thermal throttling occurs under load. If you meet the above... Give your laptop a really intensive CPU + GPU workload, for example Prime95 and Furmark simultaneously (www.mersenne.org, geeks3d.com), and monitor temperatures for CPU package and all its cores with HWiNFO (www.hwinfo.com).
