OpenAlternative is a community driven list of open source alternatives to proprietary software and applications. The goal of the site is to be your first stop when researching for a new open source service to help you grow your business. It will help you find alternatives and reviews of the products you already use.
Iโve always been a fan of open source software and Iโve always wanted to contribute to the community in some way. I thought that creating a list of open source alternatives to proprietary software and applications would be a great way to give back to the community.

As a writer, I've been using Basecamp for a few years now and I must say, it has been a game-changer for me. Basecamp is a cloud-based project management tool that offers a suite of features to help teams collaborate efficiently and effectively.
I started using Basecamp as a project management tool to manage my writing projects. Initially, I found it a bit overwhelming, but with time I got used to the interface and the features. Basecamp has a clean and intuitive design that makes it easy to use. The dashboard is well-organized and shows all the active projects and tasks at a glance. Basecamp has a variety of features that make it easy to manage tasks, track progress, communicate with team members, and share files.
Based on our record, Basecamp should be more popular than OpenAlternative. It has been mentiond 40 times since March 2021. We are tracking product recommendations and mentions on various public social media platforms and blogs. They can help you identify which product is more popular and what people think of it.
I dunno why someone would link to the repo, it's not a project one builds to host locally Also, for comparison: https://openalternative.co/?q=splunk https://alternativeto.net/software/splunk/?license=opensource. - Source: Hacker News / over 1 year ago
There are a few: - https://openalternative.co/ - https://www.opensourcealternative.to/ - https://opensourcealternatives.org/ - https://www.btw.so/open-source-alternatives By just aggregating everything FOSS, doesn't mean its useful. Its useful in a certain context - such as searching for alternatives. If you are uncertain how to "plan the product", don't plan -> just start. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago
I've built https://openalternative.co a month ago, but it's pretty niched down to software/saas applications. I think a more general one for broader selection of open source software would also be nice to have. The code for OpenAlternative is on GitHub if you want to use some or take inspiration. - Source: Hacker News / over 2 years ago

I then picked the simplest name I could find and registered openalternative.co for $6.99. - Source: dev.to / over 2 years ago
One implementation note that cost me a wrong result: URL predicates need tighter clause boundaries than entity mentions do. Split on sentence punctuation only, and "ๅนถๆฒกๆๆจๅบไธญๆๅฎ็ฝ๏ผๅ ถไธป่ฆๅฎ็ฝๆฏ https://basecamp.com" flags that URL as negated โ but the negation targets the Chinese site and the URL is being affirmed, one comma later. Splitting on commas as well fixed it: zero false flags across 1,416 URLs, and 74 genuine... - Source: dev.to / 7 days ago
Products like Fullstory (analytics), Intercom (live chat), Basecamp (project management), and Shopify (eCommerce) were created based on internal tools. - Source: dev.to / 4 months ago
37 Signals [0] famously uses their own Stimulus [1] framework on most of their products. Their CEO is a proponent of the whole no-build approach because of the additional complexity it adds, and because it makes it difficult for people to pop your code and learn from it. Remote work is an established term these days, but back in the days i.e. Prior to COVID or a few more years back, this term was quite alien in the developer community. Even though there were organizations like Basecamp which were working remotely for more than 20 years, the developer ecosystem was not built around the concept of working remotely or to put it in simple words, separately from your colleagues. Just... - Source: dev.to / almost 3 years ago
It's interesting, I've sampled basecamp.com and the number was 35 too, very similar variables, taking into consideration Basecamp is Older than Hey and heavily flex-box oriented. Source: about 3 years ago
