Open Streaming Platform features and specs

  • Self-Hosted
Open Streaming Platform (OSP) allows users to self-host their streaming server, giving them full control over their data, configurations, and privacy settings.
  • Open Source
OSP is open source software, meaning it can be freely used, modified, and distributed by anyone. This promotes transparency and extensive community support.
  • Cost-Effective
Since OSP is free and open source, it can be a cost-effective solution compared to commercial streaming platforms which often come with high subscription fees.
  • Customization
Users can customize the platform to their liking, adding specific features, plugins, or skins that suit their particular needs and branding requirements.
  • No Vendor Lock-in
With OSP, there is no dependency on third-party vendors. This allows users to avoid vendor lock-in and the potential issues related to migrating to different platforms.

Possible disadvantages of Open Streaming Platform

  • Complex Setup
Setting up OSP can be technically challenging and time-consuming, requiring knowledge in server management, networking, and possibly even some programming.
  • Maintenance
Being self-hosted means all the maintenance, updates, and troubleshooting will be the responsibility of the user, which can be resource-intensive.
  • Scalability
Managing scalability can be challenging, especially for large-scale streaming. Users have to configure and maintain infrastructure to handle large numbers of viewers and high-quality streams.
  • Limited Out-of-the-Box Features
Compared to commercial solutions, OSP may lack some advanced features and integrations that come ready-to-use out-of-the-box.
  • Support
Commercial platforms often offer dedicated customer support. With OSP, support is typically community-driven, which means faster resolution times are not always guaranteed.

assertpy features and specs

  • Fluent API
Assertpy offers a fluent API that makes assertions more readable and expressive, enabling developers to write assertions in a natural language style that is easy to understand.
  • Chainable Assertions
It allows for chainable assertions, enabling multiple checks to be performed in a single line of code, thereby reducing verbosity and enhancing clarity.
  • Comprehensive Assertion Methods
The library provides a wide range of built-in assertion methods, catering to various types of data validations, such as checking for size, type, value, and more.
  • Extensibility
Assertpy supports extending its functionality by defining custom assertions, allowing developers to tailor it to their specific needs.
  • Pythonic
Designed with Pythonic principles in mind, Assertpy fits seamlessly into Python projects, enabling idiomatic and consistent code style.

Possible disadvantages of assertpy

  • Learning Curve
Developers new to the library may encounter a learning curve due to the distinct approach of using fluent and chainable assertions as opposed to traditional methods.
  • Limited by Python Version
The library may have limitations in terms of compatibility with older versions of Python, requiring users to ensure their environment is up-to-date.
  • Performance Overhead
The additional abstraction layer introduced by a fluent interface might introduce some performance overhead, especially in performance-critical or resource-constrained environments.
  • Less Community Support
Compared to more established testing libraries, Assertpy might have less community support and fewer resources available for resolving issues or getting help.
  • Dependency Management
Using a third-party library introduces additional dependencies to manage, which could complicate project maintenance and compatibility.

  • may lose job over failed live stream
If you ever do this again, have a couple layers of "D'oh!" proofing. Record locally if you can. If you can't then set up something like Open Streaming Platform. So that you stream to it, it records on it's server, and also redirects the stream to youtube. OSP can do all this out of the box and it's very good at it. Source: over 5 years ago
