OikoSearch is a free map of Switzerland that answers the question most tools avoid: once tax, rent and health insurance are paid, how much is actually left each month?

Cost-of-living sites give you an index or crowdsourced averages. OikoSearch estimates the monthly disposable income for a personalised household profile (income, family situation) across all 2,107 Swiss municipalities, on four concrete pillars:

Tax — communal and cantonal rates from official scales (FTA/ESTV). Rent — estimated rents by dwelling size (Federal Statistical Office). Health insurance — actual LAMal reference premiums (FOPH). Quality of life — 18 filterable criteria (transport, schools, healthcare, nature, shops), up to 44 shown per municipality. Every figure carries its source and year. When an official number isn't available, OikoSearch says so and flags the value as an estimate rather than inventing precision: the detailed cantonal tax bracket is currently verified for 4 cantons (~58% of the population), the rest use an explicitly signalled approximation.

Pick your profile and the map recolours to show where your money goes furthest, or compare candidate municipalities side by side. No account, no paywall, no tracking wall.

Built solo from public Swiss open data. Ideal for expats planning a move, residents weighing a relocation, and the FIRE community chasing financial breathing room in Switzerland.

Free. No signup. Available in French, English, German and Italian.

Analysis of OikoSearch

Overall verdict

  • OikoSearch appears to be a Swiss-focused real estate search platform that aggregates property listings, offering a useful tool for those looking to buy or rent in Switzerland, though its overall quality depends on listing coverage, update frequency, and user experience compared to established competitors.

Why this product is good

  • Aggregates listings from multiple sources, saving users time compared to checking individual sites
  • Focused on the Swiss property market, potentially offering more relevant local search filters
  • Likely offers a simplified interface for browsing rental and purchase listings
  • May include useful search filters like location, price range, and property type

Recommended for

  • Expats or newcomers to Switzerland needing a straightforward property search tool
  • Budget-conscious renters or buyers comparing multiple listings quickly

Analysis of Codeconfig.dev

Overall verdict

  • Codeconfig.dev appears to be a niche developer tool aimed at simplifying configuration management for coding projects, but without extensive independent reviews or a long track record, it's difficult to fully verify its quality, reliability, and long-term support. It may be a good fit for specific use cases, but users should evaluate it against established alternatives before committing to it for critical projects.

Why this product is good

  • Focuses specifically on code configuration, which can streamline setup for developers if it delivers on this promise.
  • Likely offers a simpler or more tailored interface compared to broader, more generic configuration tools.
  • Being a newer or niche tool, it may incorporate modern development practices and up-to-date approaches.
  • Potentially lower cost or free tier compared to established enterprise solutions, appealing to indie developers or small teams.

Recommended for

  • Individual developers or small teams looking for a lightweight configuration management solution.
  • Users experimenting with new tools who are comfortable with limited community support or documentation.
  • Projects where configuration needs are simple and don't require enterprise-level features.
  • Early adopters interested in testing emerging developer tools before they gain widespread traction.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing OikoSearch and Codeconfig.dev.

What makes your product unique?

OikoSearch's answer

Most cost-of-living tools give you an index or crowdsourced averages. OikoSearch computes a personalised, municipality-level estimate of disposable income — what's actually left after tax, the LAMal health premium and rent — for all 2,107 Swiss municipalities, using only official government data. Its defining trait is radical transparency: every number is sourced and dated, and estimates are explicitly flagged rather than disguised as precision.

Codeconfig.dev's answer:

Unlike other Dropbox plugins, File Manager for Dropbox gives you full control over your cloud storage without ever leaving WordPress. Whether you're a blogger, an eCommerce store owner, or managing an LMS, our plugin makes it easy to sync files automatically, integrate with the WordPress Media Library and more.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

OikoSearch's answer

Because it answers the real question — "where can I actually afford to live in Switzerland?" — rather than showing a generic index. It works at the municipal level (where the real gaps happen, not the cantonal average), it's built on official sources (FSO, FTA, FOPH, Swisstopo) instead of crowdsourced numbers, and it's honest about its limits. Free, no account, no tracking wall — you can try it in seconds.

Codeconfig.dev's answer:

We focus on making Dropbox integration ridiculously easy. A lot of similar plugins either lack flexibility, charge extra for basic features, or make setup complicated. Our plugin stands out because:

Super user-friendly: No coding required—just connect your Dropbox, and you’re good to go. Auto-sync in real time: New files update every 1-3 minutes automatically. Deep WordPress integration: Works with Elementor, Gutenberg, WooCommerce, and major LMS plugins. Powerful file management: Upload, download, embed, and share files directly from WordPress. Shortcode Builder: You can add file browsers, galleries, sliders, and media players anywhere on your site. Great for teams: User-specific folders keep files organized for different team members or customers.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

OikoSearch's answer

People making a concrete relocation decision in Switzerland: newcomers and expats planning a move, residents weighing a change of municipality, and the FIRE / financial-independence community optimising purchasing power. Secondary: data journalists and civic-minded users interested in communal tax and cost-of-living disparities.

Codeconfig.dev's answer:

Our users are anyone who wants a hassle-free way to manage Dropbox files inside WordPress. This includes:

Website owners & bloggers – Easily add Dropbox media files to posts and pages. WooCommerce store owners – Manage digital downloads directly from Dropbox. Course creators (LMS users) – Store and share course materials with students. Photographers & creatives – Showcase images with Dropbox-powered galleries. Teams & agencies – Collaborate on projects with user-specific folders.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

OikoSearch's answer

Free public tool — individual users across Switzerland (no enterprise customers)

What's the story behind your product?

OikoSearch's answer

Built solo by a french developer in Switzerland, out of a simple observation: with the same salary, take-home money can differ by 2,000+ CHF/month depending on which municipality you live in — yet no free tool made that visible at the municipal level. OikoSearch maps all 2,107 municipalities from official open data, with sources shown and estimates flagged, so anyone can see where their money goes furthest.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

OikoSearch's answer

Next.js (React, SSR/ISR) with TypeScript and TailwindCSS on the frontend; Leaflet + MapTiler for the interactive map; a Node.js/Express API backed by MongoDB. Hosted on Vercel (frontend) and Render (API). Privacy-friendly analytics via Umami (cookieless).
