OdeCare monitors an aging parent's home without asking anything of the parent. There is no pendant to wear, no watch to charge, no button to press, and no cameras or microphones anywhere in the house.

Small radar and presence sensors are professionally installed room by room. Over the first few days the system learns that household's normal rhythm - when the person usually wakes, moves around, visits the kitchen and bathroom, and goes to bed. The family app then simply says the day is going as usual, and alerts the family when the pattern breaks: no morning movement, an unusually long stay in the bathroom, or activity stopping abruptly at night.

That matters because the standard product in this category only works if a person in crisis actively operates it, and research on real falls shows most people who own an alert button do not press it. OdeCare removes that dependency entirely.

Honestly, not every family should. If an older person genuinely accepts a pendant or a smartwatch and wears it every day, a traditional monitored alert service is cheaper and well proven, and we would say so.

OdeCare is built for the very common case where that is not true: the parent finds the pendant stigmatising, forgets to charge a watch, or simply refuses to wear anything at all. In that situation the alternatives are a device sitting unused in a drawer, or cameras that most people reject in the bedroom and bathroom, which is exactly where falls happen.

Compared with camera-based systems, OdeCare records no images or audio at all - the sensors detect presence and movement, not appearance. Compared with simple motion alarms, it learns the household's usual rhythm instead of firing on every movement, so a late morning is not treated as an emergency. Installation is done by a specialist, so the parent never has to set up or learn anything.

One limitation stated plainly: OdeCare shortens the time until family knows something is wrong. It is not an emergency service and does not call 911 by itself.

Adult children, typically between 45 and 65, whose parent lives alone and is still independent. They are usually the ones who notice first that something has changed, they often live in another city, and they carry the worry between phone calls.

The common trigger for buying is a specific event: a fall that was discovered hours later, a hospital discharge, a parent who stopped answering the phone one evening, or a diagnosis of early memory problems. Almost all of them have already tried the obvious things - daily check-in calls, an alert pendant the parent will not wear, or a camera the parent asked them to take down.

A secondary audience is professional: geriatric care managers, senior placement advisors and home care agencies who need something to offer families whose parent is not ready for assisted living but should not be entirely unwatched at night.

It started with a drawer. Our founder's grandmother lives alone, and like a lot of older people she was given a fall-alert pendant and quietly refused to wear it - "I'm not that old." It stayed in a drawer beside her bed.

That turned out to be the norm rather than a quirk. Research on older adults who actually fell at home found that the large majority of people who owned an alert button never pressed it: some could not reach it, many were not wearing it, and others did not want to make a fuss. Meanwhile the same research shows that the harm from a fall is driven less by the fall itself than by how long someone lies there before help arrives.

So the problem was not that families were careless. It was that the standard product asks a proud, independent person to wear a daily reminder of their own fragility, and then to perform helplessness on demand.

OdeCare was built to invert that: put the effort on the technology and the family, and ask nothing at all of the parent. No pendant, no charging, no cameras. Just sensors that quietly learn the rhythm of the home and speak up when the day stops looking normal.
