No description of Objects yet.
An FAA exam is the most important a pilot will ever take, costing $1000+ and going on their permanent record. MockDPE makes verbal practice possible through an AI DPE (examiner) using a custom aircraft, live weather, and real world conditions. MockDPE provides regulatory citations, grades with...

Free IFR Checkride Prep: Practice Unlimited Mock Checkrides with MockDPE

As answered by people managing Objects and MockDPE.
MockDPE's answer:
Most IFR oral exam prep is either a written question bank, a one-time mock session with a CFII, or pure AI slop (no offense). MockDPE is carefully engineered by a real commercial pilot who builds things for a living as a software developer. MockDPE is available around the clock, adapts its scenarios (different airports, aircraft, weather, and DPE personas) per-session so you're not memorizing answers, and gives structured feedback mapped to specific ACS areas of operation so you know exactly where you're weak before test day. MockDPE has gone through hundreds of iterations to make the AI as accurate as possible, responds with citations from the Instrument Flying Handbook, FAR/AIM, and live airport data. It's also validated by independent instrument flight instructors and is internally measured to grade with 96.3% consistency across sessions.
MockDPE's answer:
A strength of MockDPE is that it's useful to any instrument pilot, whether student pilots preparing for an IFR checkride, CFIIs working with instrument students, or everyday instrument pilots who want to stay fresh for their next instrument proficiency check (IPC). It's built for pilots who've completed their ground school and flight training and now need realistic oral exam prep to supplement the videos and flashcards that are widely available. The final stretch before a checkride is arguably the most important, so it's crucial that pilots have access to accurate, reliable, and realistic resources for the best chance of success.
MockDPE's answer:
MockDPE is a product aimed at individuals, not institutions. This allows us to keep the pricepoint as low as possible, passing on significant savings to pilots who are already paying enough given the incredible expense of flight training in 2026. For the cost of 10 minutes in your school's C172 trainer, you can unlock unlimited IFR test prep with live weather, real airport data, immersive scenarios, gouge upload functionality, instructor explanations, and much more!
MockDPE's answer:
MockDPE is built on Next.js and TypeScript with Vercel deployment for on-demand, fluid compute. The DPE that students interact with is actually broken into multiple, smaller Google AI Studio models, each given a very narrow task. By keeping the scope of each model small, hallucinations, inaccuracies, and deviations from instructions drop drastically. As an additional bonus, this distributed approach makes the per-response cost significantly lower than using a single, more powerful model, allowing MockDPE to pass on incredible savings to users. MockDPE is as much as 10x more cost effective than other AI pilot tools, many of which charge several hundred dollars for a single session. At that point, just pay a real CFII to run the most realistic checkride prep you can get!
MockDPE's answer:
MockDPE simulates the oral exam portion of the FAA Instrument Rating checkride in real time through two way voice communication. An AI examiner (built on Google Studio AI) asks scenario-based questions tied to real FAA ACS tasks, pulls in live weather and airport data so scenarios change every session, and scores responses against the same standards a real DPE uses. It's closer to a rehearsal with an examiner than to flashcards by a long shot, and a fraction of the cost of running a full mock checkride with a real instructor: only $29 for a full month of unlimited practice vs $200+ for a single mock checkride.
MockDPE's answer:
MockDPE was built by a commercial pilot who went through instrument rating training several years ago, before the big "AI boom." As a software developer by trade, he sees this as a massive opportunity to integrate AI responsibly and at a high level to one of the most influential industries of modern times. At the end of the day, there's no shortage of tools for testing written knowledge, but almost nothing accurately and realistically simulates the back-and-forth, scenario-driven questioning of an actual DPE oral exam. MockDPE was created to fill that specific gap, using conversational AI grounded in FAA ACS standards instead of a fixed question bank.
