As answered by people managing NodeBB and Chorus Group Collab.
Chorus Group Collab's answer:
Chorus started with a simple frustration: the best available tools for running a small online community were either ad-driven social platforms, noisy chat apps built for gaming, or expensive creator monetization engines that assumed you were running a business. Nothing was built for groups that just wanted a calm, private place to talk.
Chorus was built to fill that gap. It's a solo-developed, independently operated platform focused on doing one thing well: giving real communities a home online that respects their members and doesn't need to sell their attention to stay afloat.
Chorus Group Collab's answer:
Chorus is built around one idea: your group deserves a private, focused space that isn't paying for itself by selling your attention to advertisers. No ads, no algorithms deciding what gets seen, no transaction fees. Just a straightforward hosting platform your group pays for directly, sized and priced for real communities rather than creator businesses.
Chorus Group Collab's answer:
Most group platforms are either free because they sell ads, or expensive because they want a cut of everything your group earns. Chorus does neither. You pay one flat price based on your group's size, get the full feature set from day one, and your members' data stays private. No surprise fees, no algorithm burying posts, no pressure to monetize your community.
Chorus Group Collab's answer:
Chorus is built for organizers of small to mid-size communities: clubs, hobby groups, neighborhood organizations, families, and any group that needs a real home online without the baggage of big social platforms. If you have a group that currently lives on Facebook Groups, a Discord server, or an endless email chain, and you wish it felt a little more private and a little less chaotic, Chorus was built for you.
Chorus Group Collab's answer:
Chorus is built on Ruby on Rails with Hotwire for a fast, lightweight frontend experience. The backend runs on PostgreSQL with Redis for caching and background jobs. Native iOS and Android apps are built with Hotwire Native, sharing the core web experience without maintaining two separate codebases. Boring, proven technology chosen for reliability and maintainability over trendiness.
Chorus Group Collab's answer:
Chorus is in active use by a small number of founding groups as we grow deliberately rather than fast. We're focused on getting the experience right for real communities before scaling broadly. If you're looking for a platform with millions of users and enterprise logos, that's not us yet. If you're looking for a platform where your group actually matters to the people running it, that's exactly where we are.
