Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing NEPI and Open Devdocs.

What makes your product unique?

NEPI's answer

NEPI is the first software platform built specifically for edge AI. It handles about 90 percent of what most smart systems need out of the box: built-in sensor drivers, AI model management, event-driven automation, real-time data collection, and a browser-based UI. Your team builds only the 10 percent specific to your product, instead of rebuilding the same infrastructure from scratch. It runs fully on-device with no cloud dependency, on any Linux machine, including Raspberry Pi.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

NEPI's answer

Most edge platforms hand you a runtime and leave the integration to you, or they tie you to a single cloud. NEPI gives you the whole stack already wired together: sensors, AI, automation, data, and UI, running on the device with no cloud required. It is source-available and built on ROS and ROS 2, so you can see the code and adopt it without leaving your existing work behind. Teams prototype in days instead of months because the infrastructure is already built.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

NEPI's answer

  • OceanAero
  • WESMAR
  • VideoRay
  • UWT Ferry Project

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

NEPI's answer

Any team that collects data from the real world, runs AI on it, and acts on the result. NEPI is hardware agnostic and industry agnostic, used across robotics, defense, maritime, industrial automation, research, and education. Typical users are engineers building smart systems who would rather focus on their application than on building sensor, AI, and automation plumbing from scratch.

What's the story behind your product?

NEPI's answer

Numurus built NEPI after years of developing edge systems for hard, real-world environments like underwater vehicles and autonomous vessels. The same infrastructure had to be rebuilt for every project: sensor drivers, AI pipelines, automation, data handling. NEPI packages that foundation into a reusable platform so teams do not start from zero each time. It is the platform Numurus wished existed, now available to everyone.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

NEPI's answer

NEPI is built on ROS and ROS 2. It runs on any standard Linux machine, including NVIDIA Jetson, Raspberry Pi, and Ubuntu systems, and is available as a Docker container. It supports common sensors and AI frameworks, with a browser-based UI for configuration and live monitoring.
