What does get me off track is how short and choppy the sentences are. I plugged the whole piece into this calculator and you average 12.5 words per sentence. That's awfully short (general advice ranges from 15-25 words per sentence on average), and in many cases you've created incomplete sentences by separating dependent clauses from the rest of their related thought.
