Narrantium is a narrative-first RPG engine for Game Masters. Instead of tactical grids and tokens, it is built around story structure: branching scenes, maps, NPCs, music and combat encounters assembled into a playable adventure you can run tonight.

Play tonight Start from a ready-to-run interactive quest, launch a session and share an invite link. Players join from any phone, tablet or browser โ€” no account, no install. It works for remote tables and for in-person play, with a Player Screen you can cast to a TV.

Build your own worlds The visual quest builder connects scenes, notes, music, art and branching paths into a cohesive story flow. Add interactive maps with revealable markers, combat encounters with initiative tracking, and a shared Backpack for items and clues.

Publish and monetize Publish your own adventures to the Narrantium marketplace and sell them to other Game Masters. Every listing carries a transparency label showing how the content was created (human-made, AI-generated, or AI-generated and human-enhanced).

Play in your language Interface and adventures in 7 languages: English, Italian, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Arabic โ€” including languages almost no other RPG platform covers.

System-agnostic, with strong D&D 5e support. AI-assisted tools (character creation, text suggestions, translation, image generation) are available on paid tiers.

Only the Game Master subscribes โ€” players always play for free. Free plan available; paid plans from โ‚ฌ7.99/month, which is about โ‚ฌ1.60 per player at a table of five.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Narrantium and Haystack Analytics.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Narrantium's answer

Game Masters โ€” the one person at the table who carries the preparation. Within that, three groups:

  • Busy GMs with limited prep time. Adults with jobs and families who want a session tonight without spending a weekend writing it. Ready-to-run quests and the GM Compendium exist for them.

  • Story-driven GMs and worldbuilders. People who care about pacing, atmosphere and branching consequences more than grid tactics, and who want a place to structure scenes, art, music and encounters into something playable rather than a folder of notes.

  • Creators who want to publish. GMs who write their own adventures and want to sell them to other tables through the marketplace instead of leaving them in a drawer.

Players are a secondary audience by design: they never subscribe and never create an account, they just open the invite link. Groups run both online and in person, and the platform is deliberately localised for players outside the usual English-speaking market โ€” Italian, German and Spanish, plus Arabic and Chinese communities that most tabletop tools ignore entirely.

Engineering Leaders and Managers

What makes your product unique?

Narrantium's answer

Narrantium starts from the story, not from the battle map. Most virtual tabletops are grid-and-token combat simulators with narrative bolted on; Narrantium is a narrative engine where scenes, branching paths, music, art, maps and encounters are structured into a playable adventure โ€” and combat is one part of that flow, not the centre of it.

Three things make it unusual:

  1. You can play tonight. Ready-to-run interactive quests come with a GM Compendium, so a session can be set up in under 30 minutes instead of a weekend of prep.

  2. Zero friction for players. Only the Game Master subscribes. Players join through an invite link from any phone, tablet or browser โ€” no account, no download. That also makes it work for tables sitting in the same room, with a Player Screen cast to a TV.

  3. Adventures are a marketplace, in languages nobody else serves. You can build adventures in the visual quest builder and sell them to other GMs, and the platform runs in English, Italian, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and Arabic โ€” a level of localisation no other tabletop RPG platform currently offers.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Narrantium's answer

Choose Narrantium if what slows you down is preparation and pacing, not tactical rules.

Versus Roll20, Foundry VTT and Fantasy Grounds: those tools are excellent at grid combat, dynamic lighting and rules automation, and they expect you to build the map and the encounter. Narrantium expects you to build the story. You get a visual quest builder for branching scenes, a shared Backpack for items and clues, interactive maps with markers you reveal as players explore, and initiative tracking for the fights โ€” assembled as one narrative flow you drive live.

Practical differences that decide it for most GMs:

  • Setup cost: ready-to-run quests with a GM Compendium mean a session tonight, not a weekend of prep.
  • Player friction: your players need no account and no install; they open a link on their phone. Nothing to teach before the game starts.
  • Price model: only the GM subscribes. From โ‚ฌ7.99/month, that is roughly โ‚ฌ1.60 per player at a table of five, and there is a free tier to build on.
  • In-person tables: the Player Screen turns a TV into a shared display, so this is not online-only tooling.
  • Language: it runs in seven languages including Arabic and both Chinese scripts, which is where the alternatives simply have nothing.

If your group's centre of gravity is heavy tactical combat with automated rules, a traditional VTT is still the better fit โ€” and we say so openly.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Narrantium's answer

Narrantium is a browser-based web application, so there is nothing to install for either the Game Master or the players โ€” it runs on desktop, tablet and phone.

The stack is built around a modern JavaScript front end with a real-time backend: live sessions synchronise scene changes, map reveals, combat state and the shared Backpack across every connected device as the GM drives the story. Stripe handles subscriptions and marketplace payments, and third-party AI models power the optional creative tools (character generation, text suggestions, translation and image generation), which run on a credit system rather than being baked into every action.
