Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Nanonets and CellSource.app.

What makes your product unique?

CellSource.app's answer:

CellSource is built as a modern Office web add-in rather than a legacy Windows COM add-in. This makes it natively cross-platform, working seamlessly on Mac, PC, and Excel for the Web. Additionally, instead of cluttering spreadsheets with fragile overlay shapes, CellSource stores PDF snips and reference links directly inside cell metadata, keeping massive workbooks fast, stable, and lightweight.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

CellSource.app's answer:

The industry standard for audit evidence tools often costs thousands of dollars per seat, requires multi-year enterprise contracts, and locks users into Windows-only environments. CellSource provides the core 80% of document-matching functionality—instant search, PDF snipping, and referencing—at a fraction of the cost. It removes the enterprise bloat and allows Mac users to tie out documents natively without relying on laggy virtual machines like Parallels.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

CellSource.app's answer:

The primary audience consists of solo practitioners, internal auditors, bookkeepers, and boutique accounting firms who handle heavy data extraction and document vouching. It is uniquely positioned for finance professionals who operate on Macs and have been completely priced out or locked out of legacy enterprise audit software.

What's the story behind your product?

CellSource.app's answer:

I was working strictly in a Mac environment and needed to tie out hundreds of PDF documents to an Excel model. I realized the standard tools were heavy, Windows-only applications that crashed or lagged when run through virtual machines. Frustrated by the lack of a lightweight, cross-platform option, I spent my nights and weekends building a dedicated add-in to handle core PDF-to-cell linking without the massive enterprise bloat.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

CellSource.app's answer:

CellSource leverages the modern Office.js API, which allows it to run as a native web pane directly inside Excel across all operating systems. To rapidly prototype the complex API hooks and cross-platform PDF rendering, the initial architecture was heavily assisted by AI development tools, specifically Cursor and Claude.
