Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing MyFinanceTools.io and Vim Python IDE.

What makes your product unique?

MyFinanceTools.io's answer

All 13 calculators are completely free with no signup, no ads, and no gated results. It combines calculators, portfolio tracking across 8 account types, shared expense splitting, and 47 educational articles in one platform, all of it free. True multi-currency support with 24+ currencies and automatic exchange rates โ€” not just USD. Available in 4 languages. Premium features are very in-depth, but most users are served perfectly with the free option.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

MyFinanceTools.io's answer

Most finance calculators are ad-heavy, require signup to see results, or only work in USD. MyFinanceTools gives you 13 free calculators instantly โ€” no account needed. If you do sign up, you get portfolio tracking with real-time prices, expense splitting with shared accounts, financial goals, and a dashboard with health scoring. It's a complete personal finance toolkit instead of needing separate apps for each task.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

MyFinanceTools.io's answer

Anyone managing personal finances on a casual level: budgeters, investors, people paying off debt, FIRE enthusiasts, couples or roommates splitting expenses, and expats dealing with multiple currencies. Especially useful for internationally-minded users thanks to 24+ currencies, automatic exchange rates, and support for English, German, Spanish, and French.

What's the story behind your product?

MyFinanceTools.io's answer

I was managing my finances in Excel spreadsheets and got frustrated with the manual work. Every online calculator I found was either covered in ads, required signup just to see results, or only worked in USD. So I built a clean, free alternative as a solo developer. It started as a few calculators and grew into a full platform with portfolio tracking, expense management, shared accounts, and 47+ expert articles. New features are added very frequently, as I keep thinking of new items that I just want to use myself, and other people might want the same tools as well.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

MyFinanceTools.io's answer

Astro.js for server-side rendering and routing, React for interactive calculator components, Supabase for authentication and database, Stripe for payment processing, and Vercel for hosting. Real-time price data for stocks, ETFs, and crypto using various sources, such as Yahoo Finance, Coingecko, etc. Automatic exchange rate fetching for multi-currency support from the Frankfurter Bรถrse.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

MyFinanceTools.io's answer

MyFinanceTools serves individual users rather than enterprise customers. The audience includes personal finance enthusiasts, investors tracking multi-currency portfolios, FIRE community members planning financial independence, couples and roommates using shared expense accounts, and expats managing finances across currencies. The platform is still growing its user base as a bootstrapped solo-developer project.
