I use a little utility app called Mountain. It can be set to "Unmount external volumes on sleep" and "Mount favorite servers on wake from sleep". I use it with USB and ethernet-connected devices and it has done exactly what I want. But I'm still on Catalina and have never used a Thunderbolt DAS. I've never been enticed by a landing page (yes, datapoint of one). It's either recommendation from source I trust (which has included reddit) and some demo/review available somewhere.
