About MonkeyTypes.org and Notivo

MonkeyTypes.org
Notivo

No description of MonkeyTypes.org yet.

Managers forget the quiet quarter, not the loud week. Feedback, commitments, wins, and concerns about the people you lead happen in passing — in a 1:1, an email, a WhatsApp message, or a chat with ChatGPT or Claude — and by review season they've faded into a vague impression. Notivo is a private,...

Features and specs

What each product offers, as listed by its team.

The site offers extensive customization options including different themes, fonts, test durations, word lists, languages, and various test modes (time, words, quotes, custom text), allowing users to tailor the experience to their preferences.
  • Clean and Minimalist Interface
MonkeyType features a distraction-free, modern, and aesthetically pleasing interface that helps users focus purely on their typing without unnecessary clutter or ads.
  • Detailed Statistics and Tracking
The platform provides comprehensive performance metrics including WPM (words per minute), accuracy, consistency, and detailed graphs showing typing speed over time, helping users track their progress effectively.
  • Open Source Community
MonkeyType is an open-source project with an active community of contributors on GitHub, which means it is continuously improved, transparent, and benefits from community-driven development and feedback.

Possible disadvantages

  • Requires Account for Full Features
While basic typing tests work without an account, users need to create an account to save their progress, track long-term statistics, and access leaderboards, which may deter some casual users.
  • Can Be Overwhelming for Beginners
The sheer number of settings, modes, and customization options can be intimidating for beginners who may not know where to start or which settings are most appropriate for their skill level.
  • No Structured Lessons or Tutorials
MonkeyType is primarily a typing test platform rather than a typing tutor. It lacks structured lessons, guided courses, or tutorials to help beginners learn proper touch-typing technique from scratch.
  • Internet Dependency
As a web-based application, MonkeyType requires a stable internet connection to function. There is no offline mode, which can be inconvenient for users without reliable internet access.
  • Potential for Repetitive Content
Depending on the test mode chosen, users may encounter repeated words or phrases frequently, which can lead to memorization rather than genuine improvement in typing diverse text.
  • Prepare for a 1:1
Walk in knowing what actually happened since last time.
  • Write better feedback
Point to specific moments, not vague impressions.
  • Don’t give an unfair review by accident
No one recalls twelve months fairly from memory.
  • Follow up on what was promised
Tasks and commitments stop slipping quietly away.
  • Support a promotion case
Bring evidence you can actually stand behind.
  • Notice recurring issues
See the third time it happens, not just the first.
  • Recognize quiet progress
Catch the people who don’t announce their wins.
  • Make clearer team decisions
Decide from context, not the loudest recent memory.
  • Capture from anywhere
Save a note from the web, iOS, WhatsApp, or email — or straight out of a ChatGPT or Claude chat.
  • Black Box vault
Seal the most sensitive notes with @bb/#bb into an end-to-end, on-device encrypted vault — included from the free plan.
  • AI recap (Pro)
A weekly or monthly recap of notes, summarized and grouped by person — drafted only from the manager's own notes.

MonkeyTypes.org
Notivo

Overall verdict

  • MonkeyTypes.org appears to be a typing practice and speed test platform, likely inspired by the popular open-source MonkeyType tool. Without direct access to verify current site content, features, and reliability, it's best assessed as a potentially useful but unverified typing practice resource that users should evaluate based on their own testing.

Why this product is good

  • Typing test platforms generally offer free, accessible tools to measure and improve typing speed and accuracy
  • Such sites often include various test modes (time-based, word count, quotes) to keep practice engaging
  • Many typing test tools provide instant feedback and statistics like WPM (words per minute) and accuracy percentage
  • Browser-based typing tests require no downloads or installations, making them convenient to use
  • If similar to MonkeyType, it may offer a clean, minimalist interface focused on distraction-free typing practice

Recommended for

  • Students looking to improve typing speed for school or exams
  • Remote workers and professionals who type frequently and want to boost productivity
  • Programmers and writers seeking to increase typing efficiency
  • Casual users wanting to track typing progress over time
  • Anyone preparing for typing speed certification tests

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing MonkeyTypes.org and Notivo.

What makes your product unique?

Notivo's answer:

Notivo is private to the one manager who writes in it — not a shared team tool or HR platform. It captures observations (feedback, commitments, wins, concerns) the moment they happen, tagged by person, and can save a note straight from a ChatGPT or Claude conversation. On the Pro plan, it reads those notes back as an AI-drafted recap, built only from what the manager actually wrote.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Notivo's answer:

Generic notes apps weren't built around people — Notivo organizes everything by person from the first note. It captures directly from the web, iOS, WhatsApp, email, ChatGPT, or Claude, so context doesn't need to be copied over manually. And unlike shared 1:1 or performance tools, it stays fully private to the manager who writes in it.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Notivo's answer:

Engineering managers, team leads, and people managers at companies of any size who run recurring 1:1s, write performance reviews, or simply need to remember what their team did over months, not just the last few weeks.

What's the story behind your product?

Notivo's answer:

Notivo started from a simple observation: the moments that shape how someone grows happen quietly, in passing, and are usually gone by review season. Rather than build another dashboard, the team built a private notebook that captures what a manager personally noticed, organized by person, so their own judgment has a memory to draw on.
