About MixQueue and OwnSlides

In their own words, as submitted to SaaSHub.

MixQueue
OwnSlides

No description of MixQueue yet.

OwnSlides is a language learning platform built around the two things most apps skip: speaking, and being corrected. Most apps are good at teaching you to recognise words and bad at getting you to produce them. You tap the right tile out of four, then freeze when someone asks you something out...

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing MixQueue and OwnSlides.

What makes your product unique?

OwnSlides's answer:

The AI tutor and the live human practice sit in the same app rather than being separate products. You can have a voice conversation with a tutor, get blind-matched with another learner for a call, and review the vocabulary from both in one place. Pronunciation is scored word by word on accuracy, fluency and completeness, so you find out which specific sound you are getting wrong instead of being told you are hard to understand.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

OwnSlides's answer:

Most apps are strong at recognition and weak at production. You can tap the right answer out of four for months and still freeze when someone asks you a question out loud. OwnSlides is built around producing the language and being corrected on it, through spoken practice with both an AI tutor and real people.

Against Duolingo, it does far more with speaking and correction, though Duolingo is better at making you show up daily. Against Anki, the vocabulary system captures words in one tap from wherever you met them rather than needing you to build cards. Against italki, it is cheaper and always available, though a human teacher is still better for real conversation.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

OwnSlides's answer:

Learners who can already read and understand some of their target language but struggle to speak it, roughly A2 to B2. People who have used an app for a while and realised comprehension has outpaced production.

Secondarily, language teachers and tutors who need to produce lesson material and social content quickly, and who want to assign work to their own students and track completion.

What's the story behind your product?

OwnSlides's answer:

It started as a tool for building slide-based educational videos, and the language lessons people made with it turned out to be the part that mattered. The product moved toward language learning from there.

The direction was shaped by a specific frustration: it is easy to build something that tells you whether you picked the right answer, and hard to build something that tells you whether what came out of your mouth was right. Most of the work has gone into the second problem.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

OwnSlides's answer:

Next.js, React, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, NestJS, MongoDB, Redis, Socket.IO, LiveKit for real-time audio, Remotion for video rendering, and Azure speech services as inner parts of pronunciation algorithms.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

OwnSlides's answer:

OwnSlides is early and does not publish a customer list yet. Users are individual language learners and independent teachers rather than enterprise accounts.
