Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing MinecraftServers-List and Vim.

What's the story behind your product?

MinecraftServers-List's answer

Anyone who's tried to find a good Minecraft server knows the pain — outdated lists, servers showing offline when they're perfectly fine, and no easy way to find what you actually want to play. MinecraftServersList was built to fix that. A server list made by someone who actually plays Minecraft, for people who actually play Minecraft.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

MinecraftServers-List's answer

Built on modern web technology for a fast, reliable experience across all devices — desktop, mobile, and tablet.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

MinecraftServers-List's answer

Minecraft players of all ages who want to find a great server without the hassle — whether they're on Java, Bedrock, or both. And the server owners and communities behind those servers, who want more players discovering them every day.

What makes your product unique?

MinecraftServers-List's answer

MinecraftServersList actually gets it right where others fall short. Servers are only shown as offline if they've genuinely gone down — not because of a single bad ping at the wrong moment. That means players always see accurate status, and server owners never lose visitors to a false offline badge.

Find servers for both Java and Bedrock Edition in one place Filter by gamemode, version, country, and player count — no scrolling through hundreds of irrelevant results See real uptime history for every server before you commit to joining A clean, fast experience that works great on any device

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

MinecraftServers-List's answer

Most server lists look and feel like they haven't been updated since 2010. MinecraftServersList was built fresh in 2026 — faster, cleaner, and actually reliable. You won't find servers listed as offline when they're running fine, or get sent to a dead server that hasn't been removed in months. For server owners it's free to list, your server gets its own page that shows up in Google search results, and players who vote for you can earn in-game rewards automatically.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

MinecraftServers-List's answer

We're growing fast and welcoming new servers every day — from small community servers to large established networks across Java and Bedrock Edition worldwide.

13 Best Text Editors to Speed up Your Workflow
It’s tough to say which developers would enjoy Vim as a text editor. It’s an old system with an outdated interface. • How I built a Minecraft server list that ranks by real player votes (not bots)
If you run a Minecraft server, you can list it free at https://minecraftservers-list.com If you're looking for a server to join, the SMP list and survival list are good starting points. Happy to answer questions about the build in the comments. - Source: dev.to / 2 months ago

Vim mentions (10)

  • regular Vim has lua?!
Lua is quite small, encouraging distros to include it. The ubuntu gvim has, and the gvim AppImage linked from vim.org does. The default Makefile from github is set up to not include it, but you can uncomment one line there to get it. Source: over 3 years ago
  • is there a way to make highlighted text persistent after quit when using something like [match Search /\%'.line('.').'l/] ?
I've not used vimwiki locally (tho I'm old enough to remember the Vim wiki on vim.org :), but I think what you are wanting to do is extend vimwiki's syntax file. I presume it installs one at $VIMRUNTIM/syntax or or ~/.vim/syntax. If this sounds right, then create a ~/.vim/after/syntax/vimwiki.vim file and place your match command in there. Then everytime you open a vimwiki file it should apply your... Source: over 3 years ago
  • vim.org - Is there a reason for this 1800s-esque design?
Vim.org has 242k total visitors, tailwindcss.com has 4.4m, planetscale.com has 412k, jpl.nasa.gov has 2.6m, all built with Tailwind, all several years younger than Vim's website. Unnecessary comparison, unnecessary defence. It's a valuable tool, fine, but a complete disregard for anyone who doesn't love a crappy website and would like to navigate a website like a normal human is not something to be defended. Maybe... • What is YOUR process of writing ?
I write in Vim with some customizations in my vimrc to gear it more towards prose writing than code editing. It's not pretty, but Normal Mode and Ex commands are the most powerful text editing tools out there, so that means I spend less time on making corrections and other edits. Source: over 4 years ago
