Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing MealGeni and Open Devdocs.

What's the story behind your product?

MealGeni's answer

MealGeni started with a simple everyday problem: deciding what to eat shouldn't take so much time and mental energy. Traditional recipe sites provide endless choices, but households still have to decide what works for their tastes, budget, ingredients, dietary needs and family. MealGeni was created to turn AI into a practical household meal companion — one that understands those circumstances and helps with the entire journey from deciding what to eat to planning meals and building the shopping list. The vision has since expanded beyond dinner to support the wider household, including breakfast, lunch, snacks, baby and toddler meals, kids' lunchboxes and pet meals.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

MealGeni's answer

MealGeni is a growing consumer platform and does not currently publish individual customer information.

What makes your product unique?

MealGeni's answer

MealGeni goes beyond generating recipes. It acts as an AI-powered meal planning companion for the whole household, creating personalised meals around tastes, dietary preferences, family size, budget, available ingredients and lifestyle. It can plan breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks, as well as baby and toddler meals, kids' lunchboxes and even pet meals. MealGeni also connects meal discovery with pantry intelligence, smart shopping lists, nutrition information and ongoing taste learning, helping households decide what to eat, use what they already have and plan ahead.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

MealGeni's answer

Many meal planners focus on recipes, calorie tracking or weekly dinner plans. MealGeni brings the wider household food journey together in one personalised AI experience. Users can generate meals for different family members and meal occasions, plan around ingredients they already have, create smart shopping lists and let MealGeni learn their tastes over time. It is designed to reduce the everyday mental load of answering “What should we eat?” while still giving users control over budget, preferences, nutrition and variety. A free plan also makes it easy to start using MealGeni without a credit card.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

MealGeni's answer

MealGeni is primarily designed for busy individuals, couples and families who want to spend less time deciding what to eat and organising meals. It is particularly useful for households managing different tastes, dietary preferences, budgets, children or busy schedules. MealGeni also serves parents looking for baby, toddler and lunchbox ideas, people wanting to make better use of pantry ingredients, and anyone who wants personalised meal inspiration without manually searching through recipes every day.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

MealGeni's answer

MealGeni is a modern cloud-based Progressive Web App (PWA) built around generative AI and large language model technology. AI is used to power personalised meal generation, meal planning, ingredient-aware recommendations, nutrition-related functionality and other intelligent features. The platform also uses AI image generation to create visual meal experiences and is designed to work across desktop and mobile devices.
