Features and specs

What each product offers, as listed by its team.

MD2FILE 8 features
Modular JavaScript 5 features
  • Markdown Editing
MD2FILE provides a user-friendly Markdown editor that allows users to write and format content using Markdown syntax. It supports live preview and editing, making it easier to create well-structured documents.
  • Markdown to PDF Conversion
One of the standout features is the ability to convert Markdown files directly into polished PDFs. This includes options for customizing styles, page layouts, and formatting to achieve professional-looking documents.
  • Customizable Styles
Users can apply their own CSS to modify the appearance of headings, tables, code blocks, and other Markdown elements when generating PDFs, giving more control over the final output's look.
  • Support for Images and Links
The editor supports embedding images and links within Markdown documents, making it perfect for creating rich, multimedia content that can be converted into PDFs with full support for visual elements.
  • Multiple Export Formats
In addition to PDFs, MD2FILE may support other export options like HTML or DOCX, allowing users to generate files in multiple formats based on their needs.

  • Real-Time Preview
While writing, users can view a live preview of how their Markdown document will look once it’s converted to PDF or other formats, ensuring accuracy and reducing errors.
  • Improved Code Organization
Modular JavaScript allows developers to break down code into smaller, manageable modules. This enhances code readability and maintainability by organizing related functionality together.
  • Code Reusability
Modules encourage reusability by allowing the same piece of code to be used across different projects or multiple areas of the same application, reducing redundancy.
  • Scalability
As the application grows, managing code becomes easier with modular JavaScript. Each module can be developed, tested, and maintained independently, making the codebase more scalable.
  • Encapsulation
Modules provide encapsulation, preventing variables and functions from polluting the global namespace. This reduces the risk of naming conflicts and bugs.
  • Improved Testing
With code organized into discrete modules, writing unit tests becomes more straightforward. Each module can be tested individually, leading to more reliable and maintainable tests.

Possible disadvantages

  • Increased Complexity
Introducing modularity can add complexity to the build process, as it often requires module loaders or bundlers (like Webpack or Browserify) to manage dependencies.
  • Overhead
For smaller projects, using a modular approach might be overkill, introducing unnecessary overhead in terms of setup, configuration, and code management.
  • Learning Curve
Developers unfamiliar with modular JavaScript may face a learning curve, especially when dealing with module patterns, loaders, and bundlers.
  • Dependency Management
Relying on multiple modules can lead to complex dependency chains, making it challenging to track and resolve dependencies across different modules.
  • Performance Overhead
Modular JavaScript can introduce performance overhead if not managed properly, such as loading many small modules individually, leading to increased HTTP requests.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing MD2FILE and Modular JavaScript.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

MD2FILE's answer

  • MD2FILE doesn't publish named customers or customer-size figures.
  • It's built for individual writers, developers, students, educators, researchers, technical writers, and small teams that need a Markdown-to-PDF workflow.
  • Any named references should be added only after those customers have approved public use.

What makes your product unique?

MD2FILE's answer

MD2FILE pairs an online Markdown editor with a live rendered preview and downloads to PDF, HTML, or Markdown, all in one place. It's built for the details that trip up simpler converters: Mermaid diagrams, LaTeX math, syntax-highlighted code, local images, footnotes, page numbers, reusable snippets, export templates, configurable margins, emoji handling, and optional CJK font support. Standard editing and file generation run client-side, so there's nothing to install and no document to hand off to a general-purpose converter.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

MD2FILE's answer

Reach for MD2FILE when you want to write, review, and produce documents from a single visual editor. It's quicker to pick up than Pandoc, more focused than broad file converters like CloudConvert, and more capable than basic paste-and-download tools. You can confirm the finished layout before saving, keep diagrams and formulas intact, and lean on optional AI tools when text needs rewriting or polish. For scripted publishing pipelines Pandoc may still be the better choice; MD2FILE is strongest for fast, visual editing with a reviewed result.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

MD2FILE's answer

MD2FILE is for anyone who writes in Markdown and needs clean, shareable documents. That spans developers, technical writers, students, researchers, educators, product and operations teams, and content creators. Typical uses include notes, reports, specs, README-style files, coursework, tutorials, documentation, and technical papers that need a polished final version.

What's the story behind your product?

MD2FILE's answer

MD2FILE started from a familiar frustration: Markdown is great for writing, but turning it into a finished document usually means juggling separate editors, preview tools, browser tabs, and command-line utilities. The idea was to keep that whole workflow in one window — write or paste, watch it render, fix the details, and save a clean file. The aim is to make Markdown practical for final documents, not just drafts.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

MD2FILE's answer

MD2FILE is built on Nuxt, Vue, and TypeScript. Authoring and preview run on Vditor, with Mermaid for diagrams, KaTeX for math, PrismJS for code highlighting, and pdfmake/html-to-pdfmake for document generation. Rounding out the stack are Pinia, Nuxt Content, Tailwind CSS, Better Auth, Stripe, MySQL, Redis, and additional client-side libraries that handle image, emoji, and layout rendering.
