RenameClick is a local-first desktop app for macOS and Windows that renames and organizes supported files from their contents instead of relying on existing filenames. Suggested names and folders stay reviewable and editable before changes are applied.

With Local AI selected, built-in document and image modelsโ€”and the optional audio transcription modelโ€”run on the device after download. Optional cloud providers use the user's own API keys; LM Studio and Ollama are supported as local integrations.

Key workflows: - Batch rename supported files from their content - Sort files with AI Categories, metadata folders, or Match Folders - Find local files by meaning with AI Search - Watch incoming folders with Auto Flow - Use custom naming instructions, date and EXIF patterns, undo and redo

The app supports common images, PDFs, Office and text documents, structured text formats, and MP3, WAV, FLAC, M4A, and AAC recordings. Audio transcription is currently in beta.

Free users get unlimited AI analysis and AI Search plus 30 successful applied renames or moves per month. Pro removes the monthly apply limit. Supported platforms: macOS 13+ on Apple Silicon or Intel, and Windows 10/11.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Makerkit.dev and RenameClick.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Makerkit.dev's answer

Indie Hackers and Companies who want to launch quickly, without compromising on quality.

RenameClick's answer:

RenameClick is for macOS and Windows users who manage recurring batches of local files whose current names do not describe their contents. Typical workflows include screenshots and photos, camera imports, scans, receipts and invoices, contracts and reports, voice notes and interviews, Downloads folders, and mixed archives.

It is especially relevant to people who want content-based suggestions but still need to review and edit every proposed name or folder before changes are applied.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Makerkit.dev's answer

Makerkit uses Next.js 15 (App Router), Supabase, React.js, Typescript and Stripe.

RenameClick's answer:

RenameClick is a desktop application built with Electron, TypeScript, React, and Vite. It uses bundled native helpers and local model runtimes for on-device processing, including Sherpa-ONNX for optional local audio transcription. The application also integrates with local providers such as LM Studio and Ollama and with optional cloud AI providers configured with the user's own API keys.

What makes your product unique?

Makerkit.dev's answer

Makerkit stands out by offering a truly modular architecture built with Turborepo, where core features like auth, billing, and notifications live in their own packages for better maintainability.

While most starters lock you into specific patterns or providers, Makerkit gives you flexibility with a multi-account system supporting both B2B and B2C scenarios, provider-agnostic billing, and edge-ready deployment options.

Beyond the basics, it includes production-ready features like multi-factor auth, real-time notifications, and team permissions - all built with Supabase, TypeScript, React Query, and modern tooling to make development a genuine pleasure.

RenameClick's answer:

RenameClick combines content-aware renaming, file organization, and semantic search in one desktop workflow. It analyzes supported file content instead of relying only on the existing filename, then keeps every suggested name and destination editable before anything is applied.

With Local AI selected, built-in document and image modelsโ€”and the optional audio transcription modelโ€”run on the device after download. Cloud providers are optional and use the user's own API keys. RenameClick also includes AI Categories, metadata folder presets, Match Folders, AI Search, Auto Flow, and undo/redo on macOS and Windows.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Makerkit.dev's answer

While other starters give you basic auth and a dashboard, Makerkit provides a genuinely modular foundation with the real features SaaS products need - like multi-factor auth, team permissions, real-time notifications, and provider-agnostic billing, all organized in clean, maintainable packages using Turborepo.

You get a first-class developer experience with TypeScript, React Query, and modern tooling, plus the flexibility to support both B2B and B2C scenarios, different payment providers, and edge deployment options.

Best of all, Makerkit is actively maintained with regular updates and responsive support, so you're building on a foundation that grows with your needs rather than painting yourself into a corner.

RenameClick's answer:

RenameClick is a good fit when pattern-based batch renaming is not enough. It can suggest names from supported file contents, organize files into folders, find files by meaning, and watch incoming folders while keeping a review-before-apply workflow.

Its Local AI option is useful for people who want document and image processingโ€”and optional audio transcriptionโ€”to run on their own computer after the required models are downloaded. Optional cloud providers and local integrations such as LM Studio and Ollama remain available when more flexibility is needed. Users who only need simple prefix, suffix, or text replacement may prefer a traditional batch renaming utility.
