  • Free While in Beta
The software is free to use while it remains in beta, which it has been for a prolonged period.
  • Wide Format Support
MakeMKV supports a wide variety of disc formats, including DVD and Blu-ray, allowing users to rip almost any disc they have.

  • Cost After Beta
Once the software exits its beta phase, it will require a paid license, which could deter some users.
  • Large File Sizes
The MKV files created by MakeMKV tend to be large, as the software does not compress the files, which can consume a significant amount of storage space.

Just re-download the install package from makemkv.com and run it, it will ask to remove old install then allow you to reinstall then the key resets. (do this until the new key is released). Then down the road if you like it you can always get the paid lifetime license. Source: over 2 years ago
