Magic Eraser is an AI photo editor for iOS and Android that lets anyone perform studio-quality edits in seconds. The app combines three powerful AI modes: REMOVE for cleaning up unwanted objects, people, watermarks, text, and shadows from any photo; REPLACE for prompt-based generative fill that turns selected regions into anything you can describe in plain language; and GENERATE for full text-to-image creation when you want to design a scene from scratch.

The remover engine uses inpainting models tuned for photo restoration โ€” it reconstructs realistic backgrounds, textures, and lighting where the unwanted element used to be. The replace mode is built on the same family of generative models that power Adobe Firefly and Stable Diffusion XL, but with a mobile-first UI: brush over an area, type a prompt, and the AI fills the masked region while preserving the surrounding image. The generate mode produces 1024px images across photorealistic, anime, illustration, and product-shot styles.

Magic Eraser is positioned as a freemium alternative to Cleanup.pictures, Photoroom, and remove.bg, with a workflow optimized for phone-first creators: photographers cleaning up listings, parents removing strangers from family photos, e-commerce sellers preparing product shots, and social-media creators producing thumbnails. The free tier includes daily edits at standard resolution; Pro unlocks 4K exports, batch processing, and the full generative library. The app is available on the App Store and Google Play and ships with a privacy-first design โ€” uploaded images are not used to train models.

React Engine features and specs

  • Isomorphic rendering
React Engine enables both server-side and client-side rendering of React components, providing a seamless isomorphic/universal JavaScript experience. This allows for faster initial page loads and better SEO while maintaining rich client-side interactivity.
  • Express.js integration
React Engine is designed as a view engine for Express.js, making it easy to integrate React into existing Express-based applications with minimal configuration. It follows familiar Express conventions for setting up view engines.
  • Built-in React Router support
The library comes with built-in support for React Router, enabling developers to easily set up server-side and client-side routing without complex manual configuration.
  • PayPal backing
React Engine was developed and maintained by PayPal, which provided credibility and ensured it was battle-tested in a large-scale production environment before being open-sourced.
  • Simplified setup
The library abstracts away much of the complexity involved in setting up server-side rendering with React, reducing boilerplate code and allowing developers to get a universal React application running quickly.

Possible disadvantages of React Engine

  • Abandoned project
The repository appears to be no longer actively maintained, with no recent commits or updates. This makes it risky to use in production as bugs and security vulnerabilities may go unpatched.
  • Outdated dependencies
React Engine was built for older versions of React and React Router. It may not be compatible with modern versions of React (16+, 17, 18) or React Router (v5, v6), limiting its usefulness in current projects.
  • Limited ecosystem support
The library is tightly coupled to Express.js, meaning it cannot be easily used with other Node.js frameworks like Koa, Hapi, or Fastify, reducing its flexibility.
  • Better modern alternatives
Modern tools like Next.js, Remix, and Vite with SSR plugins provide far more comprehensive and well-maintained solutions for server-side rendering with React, making React Engine largely obsolete.
  • Limited documentation and community
The project has relatively sparse documentation and a small community, making it difficult for new developers to troubleshoot issues or find examples and best practices for advanced use cases.

Analysis of Magic Eraser.live

Overall verdict

  • Magic Eraser.live is a convenient, browser-based tool for quickly removing unwanted objects, people, or blemishes from photos without needing to install software or have advanced editing skills. As with many free online editors, results can vary depending on image complexity, and users should always verify a site's privacy practices and terms before uploading personal photos.

Why this product is good

  • Free and accessible directly from a web browser with no software installation required
  • Simple, beginner-friendly interface for removing unwanted objects, text, or blemishes
  • Fast processing for quick edits and touch-ups
  • Useful for cleaning up photos before sharing on social media or listings
  • No advanced photo-editing expertise needed to get usable results

Recommended for

  • Casual users who want quick photo touch-ups without complex software
  • Social media creators cleaning up images before posting
  • Online sellers removing distractions from product photos
  • Beginners who prefer a simple, no-cost editing tool
  • People needing occasional object or watermark removal rather than professional-grade retouching

Analysis of React Engine

Overall verdict

  • Unable to verify a project specifically named 'React Engine' on GitHub with confidence, as this does not correspond to a widely recognized or well-documented open-source project that I have reliable information about. There may be multiple small or niche repositories using this name, and quality would vary significantly between them.

Why this product is good

  • React Engine is not a commonly recognized name in the mainstream React ecosystem
  • No verifiable consensus data on stars, maintenance status, documentation quality, or community adoption is available
  • Could refer to a personal project, a boilerplate, a rendering engine, or a niche tool - without more context, its quality cannot be assessed
  • Names like this are sometimes used for student projects, abandoned repos, or experimental tools that lack production readiness

Recommended for

  • Not recommended without further verification
  • Developers should search GitHub directly, check star count, last commit date, open issues, and documentation before adopting
  • Best suited for evaluation on a case-by-case basis rather than a blanket recommendation
  • If you have a specific repository URL, sharing it would allow for a more accurate assessment

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Magic Eraser.live and React Engine.

What makes your product unique?

Magic Eraser.live's answer

Magic Eraser is the only mobile-first AI photo editor that ships all three modern generative-AI workflows in a single app:

  • REMOVE โ€” inpainting-based object, people, watermark, text, and shadow erasing that reconstructs realistic backgrounds.
  • REPLACE โ€” brush-and-prompt generative fill that turns selected regions into anything you describe in plain language.
  • GENERATE โ€” full text-to-image creation from scratch across photorealistic, anime, illustration, and product-shot styles.

Most competitors only do one of these. Cleanup.pictures handles removal but cannot generate. Adobe Firefly does generative fill but lives behind a desktop suite. Magic Eraser bundles all three into a phone-first workflow with daily free edits, no watermark on Pro exports, and a privacy-first promise: uploaded images are not used to train models.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Magic Eraser.live's answer

A few reasons people pick Magic Eraser over the alternatives:

  • One app, three AI modes. Removal, generative fill, and text-to-image are all under a single subscription. No need to juggle Cleanup.pictures for erase, Firefly for fill, and Midjourney for generate.
  • Phone-first UX. Brush-mask, prompt, export โ€” designed for editing on the device where your photos already live. Desktop tools like Photoshop force a roundtrip.
  • Freemium that's actually usable. The free tier ships daily edits at standard resolution, so you can evaluate the engine before paying. Pro at $29.99/year unlocks 4K exports, batch processing, unlimited filters, and removes the watermark.
  • No model training on user images. We don't harvest uploads to train the next model โ€” explicitly different from several free web tools whose terms reserve that right.
  • Native iOS and Android, plus a web version for desktop edits.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Magic Eraser.live's answer

Magic Eraser's primary audience is mobile-first creators and small businesses who need pro-quality edits without learning Photoshop:

  • E-commerce sellers prepping listings โ€” removing backgrounds, cleaning up product shots, generating lifestyle variations on Shopify/Etsy/Amazon.
  • Social-media creators producing thumbnails, hooks, and content variations โ€” TikTok creators, YouTubers, Instagram pages.
  • Real estate agents and Airbnb hosts who need clean property photos without tourists/staff/clutter.
  • Parents and casual users wanting strangers, ex-partners, watermarks, or unwanted elements removed from personal photos.
  • Photographers and freelancers needing fast object removal on location without firing up a laptop.

The common thread: they need fast, mobile, high-quality results โ€” not a 30-minute Photoshop tutorial.

What's the story behind your product?

Magic Eraser.live's answer

Magic Eraser started in 2022 as a personal frustration project. The team kept reaching for desktop tools every time we needed to clean up a quick phone photo โ€” a stranger in the background of a vacation shot, a watermark on a stock image, a power line ruining a sunset.

Inpainting models had finally gotten good enough to do this work without a Photoshop session, but the existing apps were either web-only (clunky on a phone), single-feature (just background remove, just text removal), or aggressively pay-walled before you could even try the result.

We shipped Magic Eraser to the App Store in 2022 as a one-tap object remover. As Stable Diffusion and its derivatives matured, we added Replace (generative fill via prompt) and Generate (text-to-image). Today the app combines all three under a single freemium subscription, with native iOS, native Android, and a web version.

The product philosophy hasn't changed: AI photo editing should feel like one tap, not a tutorial.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Magic Eraser.live's answer

Magic Eraser is built on a generative-AI stack tuned for mobile latency:

  • Object removal: inpainting models in the LaMa / Stable Diffusion XL inpaint family, fine-tuned for photographic background reconstruction.
  • Generative fill (Replace): SDXL-class diffusion models conditioned on the masked region plus the user's text prompt.
  • Text-to-image (Generate): SDXL-tier base models with style LoRAs for photorealistic, anime, illustration, and product-shot outputs.
  • Native iOS app built in Swift; native Android in Kotlin. Both share the same backend.
  • Web version is a Next.js 15 app (React 19, Tailwind, App Router) for desktop edits and the marketing site.
  • Inference runs on a GPU backend (NVIDIA accelerators) with autoscaling for peak load.
  • Image processing happens server-side; uploads are not retained for training and are deleted after the job completes.
