But when I decided to make changes, I quickly realized that there's simply no tools for my need. You cannot add even simple text or an image. Customization is really limited in general.

This sounds like an issue with how something is set up on your site, as opposed to a shopify/platform issue. It is almost 100% linked to your currency conversion based on what youโve described. If you donโt have an in house development resource, I would recommend reaching out to something like StoreTasker to have a pro jump in and make a fix, or see if the theme support can help in any way.
