As answered by people managing LineupDesk and Opalstack.
LineupDesk's answer
It opens on a finished lineup. Most builders start with an empty pitch, so you spend the first few seconds placing eleven players manually; LineupDesk renders a complete 4-3-3 on the server, so the page is useful immediately.
Two things make the exports stand out. The PDF is true vector: the pitch is made of lines and the names are actual text, not a screenshot, so a printed team sheet stays sharp at any size. And the share link doubles as the save file: the entire lineup lives in the URL fragment, so nothing is stored or uploaded, and the same link can reopen the exact board next season.
LineupDesk's answer
Most free lineup builders can make a decent lineup image. Choose LineupDesk for two specific jobs.
If you need to print it: the PDF is true vector output, not a raster image, so it stays crisp at any size. Most competitors export PNG, which can look soft when printed.
If you need to come back to it: the lineup is stored in the share link, not an account. Bookmark it, send it to an assistant coach, and edit it later (no login to forget and no server storage to lose).
Also: there’s no watermark across the pitch (just a small credit line outside it), and the board can be embedded as a readonly iframe on a club site.
LineupDesk's answer
Two groups. Grassroots and youth coaches who need a team sheet or batting-order card they can print and pin up (for them, the PDF and no-account start are the main value). And football fans and content creators who post predicted or actual XIs to chats, forums, or social feeds (for them, it’s the PNG and share link).
Both want one useful artifact in under a minute, not another squad database to maintain.
LineupDesk's answer
It started with a simple observation: lineup builders make you do the boring part first. You arrive wanting to move one player and get an empty pitch, eleven dots to place, or a signup form.
So the constraint was simple: the page should be useful before you touch it, and never ask who you are. The eleven are rendered server-side on first paint, and the URL is the save file, removing the need for accounts, storage, and a privacy policy. The vector PDF came from the same idea: coaches need something they can print, and a raster export quietly fails that job.
The baseball lineup maker followed because coaches asking for a batting-order card need a card, not a recoloured pitch, so it is a different artifact built on the same idea.
LineupDesk's answer
A static site: Markdown content and Jinja2 templates built by a small Python script, served as plain files from Cloudflare Workers.
No backend, no database, no analytics on the tools: every lineup is computed in the browser and encoded into the URL.
