LinearB integrates seamlessly with popular project management and communication tools like Jira, GitHub, Slack, and Bitbucket, making it easier to adopt without changing the existing workflow.
  • Real-time Metrics
Provides real-time visibility into the software development lifecycle, allowing teams to gain insights and take immediate action to improve development processes.
  • Automated Analytics
Automates the collection and analysis of data, reducing the manual effort required to gather metrics and allowing teams to focus on decision-making and improvements.
  • Workflow Optimization
Offers features to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the development process, enabling teams to streamline workflows and improve productivity.
  • Developer Metrics
Includes metrics specifically for developers, such as code quality scores, pull request review times, and activity reports, to help individual contributors understand and enhance their performance.

Possible disadvantages of LinearB

  • Learning Curve
Although the tool integrates well with other platforms, there is a learning curve associated with understanding and utilizing all of its features effectively.
  • Potential Overload of Metrics
The extensive array of metrics and data presented can be overwhelming for teams not accustomed to such detailed analytics, potentially causing decision paralysis.
  • Cost
The pricing structure might be expensive for small teams or startups, especially when compared to other simpler project management or analytics tools.
  • Dependency on Data Integration
The effectiveness of LinearB largely depends on the quality and comprehensiveness of the data integrated from other tools. Inconsistent or incomplete data can hamper its utility.
  • Privacy Concerns
Given the level of detail and access required, there might be concerns around data privacy and the handling of sensitive project information, especially in heavily regulated industries.

Glade features and specs

  • User Interface Design
Glade allows developers to design user interfaces visually, which can accelerate the development process and ensures that design considerations are visible early on.
  • Integration with GTK
Glade is specifically designed to interface with GTK, making it a powerful tool for developing applications that target the GNOME desktop environment.
  • XML UI Files
Glade stores the UI designs in XML format, which makes it easy to share, version control, and manually edit if necessary.
  • Non-programmatic Design
Creating UI elements doesn't require coding, which benefits designers and developers who want to focus on design rather than implementation details.
  • Community and Documentation
Being a part of the GNOME ecosystem means Glade benefits from community support and extensive documentation, easing up the learning curve for new users.

Possible disadvantages of Glade

  • Complexity for Large Projects
For very large projects, managing the XML files generated by Glade can become cumbersome and error-prone without proper organization and methodology.
  • Learning Curve
While Glade simplifies UI creation, new users may face a learning curve associated with understanding how Glade files integrate with programming logic in GTK.
  • Limited to GTK
The tool is specifically tied to GTK, which limits its usefulness for projects targeting alternative UI toolkits or cross-platform applications.
  • Dependency on Libraries
To use Glade, developers must rely on the GTK libraries it supports, which can be limiting if certain required widgets or features are not available.
  • Performance Overheads
Sometimes, using Glade generated UIs might introduce performance issues, particularly if not optimized well or for complex UI structures.

  • Developer Productivity vs Developer Experience: Why You Can't Fix One Without the Other
Most tools measure half the picture. Traditional metrics platforms like LinearB focus on quantitative signals (DORA metrics, cycle time). Survey platforms like Culture Amp capture sentiment across organizations but aren't developer-specific. DX (founded by DORA/SPACE research creators) combines developer surveys with SDLC analytics. These approaches require deliberate implementation and buy-in. - Source: dev.to / 8 months ago

  • Is Glade (C#) still a thing? If not - what's a good alternative?

  • No code tools with rust. Are there any no code tools for developing rust applications? I hate hardcoding applications from scratch but want to be able to get into specific details.
The Glade website says that, as of August 2022, it's not being developed anymore and I remember reading an article somewhere (Phoronix?) saying that the GTK devs consider it deprecated and want you hand-writing GTKBuilder XML instead. I remember hearing several months ago that the GTK devs were deprecating Glade in favour of expecting people to hand-write GTKBuilder XML. Source: over 3 years ago
  • What would you suggest to practice JS/Python in combination with GNOME apps
So, what's the best way to tackle the challenge: writing GNOME extensions + bind them to GNOME app, or GJS, or Glade, or something else? I thought about working directly with the specific tool's source code but then I realise it'll be just a waste of my time decoding the code written by somebody else for the sake of adding a few hundred lines of code that would still make just a miserable part of the original... • Does anybody have a use-case for Scala WASM compilation target?
Can't argue with that, but to me it seems that things have substantially deteriorated since desktop GUIs fell out of fashion. Maybe that tells you more about my age than about the state of the art, but in the 90's one could "learn" GUI programming in about 30min in a RAD tool by throwing controls in containers and implementing callback functions in "direct style" for the event (Qt , swing, Java/ScalaFX, Gtk,... • Learn GNOME Builder
I'm also learning Pyhton with GTK. I don't know if you already use GTK4 or if you decided to stick with GTK3 to be able to generate the xml file with Glade (drag and drop) because GTK4 isn't supported by Glade. That being said for GTK4 and python I found a very nice guide right here. Source: about 4 years ago
