I built it because YouTube already has the best content for almost any skill. The problem is structure. Without a real curriculum, you spend more time picking videos than actually learning. LearnPath uses AI to assemble a personalized path from the best free videos on YouTube, then adapts it based on how you score on quizzes.

TranscriptFetch is one API for getting text out of video and web content.
Send a URL from YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X or Facebook and get back clean, timestamped text. Send any web page and get clean Markdown. One endpoint, one response shape, one API key.
Most short-form video has no caption track to download. TikTok's auto-captions are opt-in per upload, Instagram never publishes a downloadable track, and a large share of captions on both platforms are burned into the video frames where no parser can read them.
When there is no caption track, TranscriptFetch transcribes the audio instead. Same endpoint, same response, so your code never branches on which method produced the text.

YouTube has the best content for almost any skill, but no structure. Coursera and Udemy have structure but cost $49 to $79 a month or $200 a course. LearnPath gives you the structure of a paid course on top of free YouTube videos, and the path adapts based on how you score on quizzes. The free tier is fully usable, not crippled. Knowledge actually sticks because spaced repetition is built in.

Reliability: requests run through rotating infrastructure, so code that works locally keeps working from a server, which is where most open-source approaches break. The free browser tools exist for one-off transcripts and for evaluating output quality before writing any code.

I taught myself programming, development, and most of what I know from YouTube. There is an enormous amount of high-quality material on the platform but no structure and no real way to know if you are actually learning. After years of stitching together my own playlists, I built LearnPath to fix that for everyone else. It started with discovering there is no good way to get the text of a video. YouTubeโs official Data API will confirm a caption track exists and then refuse to hand it over, because captions.download requires the video ownerโs OAuth token. The popular open-source libraries work until you deploy them, at which point platforms start refusing datacenter IPs. And YouTube is the easy case: TikTok and Instagram publish no caption file at all. Every workaround solved one platform, worked locally, and broke in production. TranscriptFetch is the version that handles the failure cases as first-class behaviour rather than edge cases.
