Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Latch Tools and CloudConvert.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Latch Tools's answer

  • Astro (static-site generation) with TypeScript
  • Client-side WebAssembly image codecs (the @jsquash family) for AVIF / WebP / JPEG XL encode-decode
  • Native browser APIs (Canvas, the File API, and Web Workers) for processing, resizing, and redaction
  • Hosted on Cloudflare Pages

What makes your product unique?

Latch Tools's answer

Latch Tools runs every operation entirely in your browser. Most "free online converters" quietly upload your images to their backend to process them. Latch does the conversion, redaction, and metadata-stripping locally with WebAssembly. So a private photo, a document, or a license plate you're blurring stays on your own machine.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Latch Tools's answer

  • Private by design: there's no upload endpoint, so your files can't be logged, cached, or leaked server-side.
  • Fast: nothing is uploaded, so conversions are near-instant even on large files, with no queue or server-imposed size cap.
  • No friction: no sign-up, no email wall, no watermark. Open a tool, drop a file, download the result.
