Possible disadvantages

  • Smaller Community and Ecosystem
Compared to major hosting providers like DigitalOcean, AWS, or even shared hosts like SiteGround, Opalstack has a smaller user base, which means fewer community tutorials, third-party guides, and forum discussions available for troubleshooting.
  • Limited Scalability Options
Opalstack is primarily a shared hosting provider, which means it may not be the best choice for high-traffic applications or projects that require rapid, on-demand scaling of resources like CPU, RAM, or storage.
  • Not Ideal for Beginners
While developer-friendly, Opalstack's approach can be intimidating for non-technical users. Setting up applications often requires familiarity with the command line and server configuration, which may not suit those looking for simple one-click solutions.
  • Limited Data Center Locations
Opalstack offers a relatively small number of data center locations compared to major cloud providers, which may result in higher latency for users targeting audiences in regions not well-served by the available server locations.
  • Fewer Managed Services and Add-ons
Unlike larger hosting platforms, Opalstack lacks a wide range of managed add-on services such as built-in CDN integration, managed backups with granular restore options, or one-click SSL management that more mainstream providers offer out of the box.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Landlord and Opalstack.

What's the story behind your product?

Landlord's answer

When I was 17 I bought my first self storage facility.

I had to convince my Mom that I wasn't an international drug dealer because I was receiving cash and checks in the mail. I had to convince my tenants that the 17 year old calling them wasn't trying to scam them for rent money wasn't a scammer. Lastly, I had to turn around a self storage property with 50% occupancy; no website; paper contracts; and tenants paying with cash and checks. Oh, and still to go to school.

When I looked for storage software, I only found software that helped me run my facility. I didn't have time to run my facility, I needed my software to run my facility for me. So I built the first version of Landlord storage software.

With this software, a reliable handyman on call, and Landlord's customer support agents I automated my facility so that I spent 1 hour a week managing occasional issues.

Now, my facility had 24/7 call answering and an SEO optimized website. I had the software run some promotions and within 3 months my facility went from 50% to 94% occupancy.

Even more mind blowing, after 2 years I sold the facility for double what I bought it for.

Self storage owners with 1 to 1000 facilities

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Landlord's answer

Landlord isn't just a self storage software, it's a partnership. We constantly engage with our owners to figure out what their business goals are and make the features they need to succeed–because your wins are our wins.

What makes your product unique?

Landlord's answer

Since 2023 there have been three kinds of self storage software. Storage storage that is hard to use and makes you do all the work. Storage software with "automations" that are hard to setup. And storage software called Landlord.
