KeePass features and specs

  • Open Source
KeePass is open-source software, which means its source code is publicly available for review. This ensures transparency and allows for independent security audits.
  • Free
KeePass is completely free to use. There are no subscription fees or one-time purchase costs, making it accessible to everyone.
  • Strong Encryption
KeePass uses strong encryption algorithms (AES-256, ChaCha20) to securely store passwords, making it very difficult for unauthorized users to access the stored data.
  • Cross-platform Availability
KeePass supports multiple operating systems including Windows, macOS, Linux, and has a variety of compatible third-party apps for mobile platforms like Android and iOS.
  • Offline Storage
KeePass stores the password database locally on your device rather than in the cloud, reducing the risk of remote hacks or breaches.
  • Customizable
KeePass offers a high degree of customization through plugins and extensions, allowing users to tailor its functionality to their specific needs.
  • Portable
KeePass can be run from a USB stick without installation, making it a portable option for users who need password management on the go.

Possible disadvantages of KeePass

  • User Interface
The user interface of KeePass is considered by some to be outdated and not as intuitive as more modern password managers.
  • Manual Syncing
KeePass does not have built-in cloud synchronization, requiring users to manually sync their password database across multiple devices.
  • Learning Curve
Being a highly customizable tool with various features, KeePass can have a steep learning curve for new users who are not tech-savvy.
  • No Native Mobile Apps
While there are third-party apps available for mobile devices, KeePass does not offer official mobile applications, which may lead to inconsistencies in user experience.
  • Limited Customer Support
As an open-source project, KeePass does not offer professional customer support. Users must rely on community forums and documentation for help.
  • Reliance on Plugins
Many advanced features require the use of third-party plugins, which may vary in quality and security, potentially introducing risks.

Focusmo features and specs

  • Accountability-Based Focus
Focusmo uses a unique accountability mechanism where users commit to focus sessions and face social or financial consequences for failing to complete them, which can be a powerful motivator to stay on task.
  • Distraction Blocking
The app helps block distracting websites and applications during focus sessions, making it easier to stay productive and avoid common time-wasting activities.
  • Structured Focus Sessions
Focusmo encourages users to set dedicated focus periods with clear start and end times, helping build consistent work habits and time management skills.
  • Gamification and Motivation
The app incorporates gamification elements and stakes-based motivation, making the process of staying focused more engaging compared to simple timer-based productivity tools.
  • Simple and Purpose-Driven Design
Focusmo has a clean, straightforward interface focused on its core mission of helping users concentrate, without overwhelming them with unnecessary features or complex settings.

Possible disadvantages of Focusmo

  • Pressure-Based Approach May Not Suit Everyone
The accountability and stakes-based model can create anxiety or stress for some users, particularly those who respond poorly to punishment-based motivation systems.
  • Limited Free Features
Like many productivity apps, Focusmo may gate important features behind a paid subscription, which can limit the usefulness of the free tier for casual users.
  • Relatively New and Niche
Focusmo is a smaller, less established app compared to competitors like Forest or Freedom, meaning it may have fewer integrations, a smaller community, and less proven long-term reliability.
  • Dependency Risk
Users may become reliant on external accountability mechanisms to focus rather than developing intrinsic discipline, potentially making it harder to concentrate without the app.
  • Limited Platform Availability
Focusmo may not be available across all platforms and devices, which can limit its usefulness for users who work across multiple operating systems or need seamless cross-device support.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing KeePass and Focusmo.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Focusmo's answer:

No management overhead โ€” Unlike Toggl or traditional time trackers, Focusmo doesn't require you to start/stop timers or categorize tasks manually. It just asks one simple question periodically.

Built for ADHD brains โ€” Most productivity apps assume you can stay organized. Focusmo is designed for people who struggle with time blindness and context switching. The always-visible task bar and hourly check-ins were specifically built for this.

Truly passive tracking โ€” Competitors require manual logging. Focusmo automatically tracks which apps and websites you use, showing you where your time actually went.

Simpler is better โ€” No complex dashboards, no project hierarchies, no team features you don't need. Just you, your current task, and honest feedback about your time.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Focusmo's answer:

  • Swift and SwiftUI โ€” 100% native macOS application
  • Core Data โ€” local storage for privacy-first approach
  • macOS native APIs โ€” for app/website tracking and system integration
  • No external AI/ML dependencies for core functionality

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Focusmo's answer:

People with ADHD โ€” The app's core features (hourly check-ins, visible task bar, time visualization) were designed specifically for ADHD symptoms like time blindness and difficulty staying on task.

Knowledge workers who "lose days" โ€” Developers, designers, writers, and freelancers who sit down to work and suddenly it's 6pm and they can't remember what they accomplished.

Students โ€” Especially those struggling with focus during study sessions or working on long-term projects.

Anyone who finds traditional productivity apps overwhelming โ€” People who've tried Toggl, Notion, or Pomodoro apps but found them too demanding to maintain.

What makes your product unique?

Focusmo's answer:

Focusmo takes a radically different approach to focus. Instead of another to-do list or Pomodoro timer that you have to manage, it works like an accountability partner:

  • Hourly check-ins โ€” asks "What are you working on right now?" so you stay aware of how you're spending your time
  • Always-visible task bar โ€” your current focus stays on screen so you never forget what you're supposed to be doing mid-task
  • Automatic tracking โ€” see exactly which apps and websites consumed your time, no manual logging required
  • Time visualization โ€” blue waves help visualize time passing, designed specifically for people with time blindness

Most productivity apps add complexity. Focusmo removes it.

What's the story behind your product?

Focusmo's answer:

Focusmo was born from personal frustration. I tried every productivity app out there โ€” Toggl, Forest, Pomodoro timers, blocking apps โ€” but nothing stuck. They all required too much management or were too aggressive.

I wanted something that would simply ask me what I'm doing, keep it visible so I don't forget, and show me where my time went at the end of the day. No complex setup, no maintenance overhead.

Built it for myself first. Then realized others โ€” especially people with ADHD โ€” were looking for exactly the same thing. The response from the community has been incredible, with users saying it's the first focus app that actually matches how their brain works.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

Focusmo's answer:

Focusmo serves primarily individual users rather than enterprise customers. Our growing community includes:

  • Independent developers and freelancers
  • Students and researchers
  • Remote workers
  • Content creators and writers
  • Professionals managing ADHD

With 800+ daily active users and growing, we're focused on helping individuals improve their relationship with time and focus.

The key difference here being that this is two way hashing so passwords can be decrypted. In reality, there are a lot of attack vectors like MITM, event logging or sometimes straight up storing data in plaintext.
