Possible disadvantages of KDE Itinerary

  • Limited Platform Availability
KDE Itinerary may not be available on all operating systems or devices, potentially excluding users who do not operate within the KDE or compatible environments.
  • User Interface Complexity
The user interface, while feature-rich, can be complex for newcomers unfamiliar with KDE applications, leading to a steeper learning curve.
  • Dependency on Email Parsing
The app's reliance on parsing travel data from emails may result in inaccuracies if emails do not follow certain formats, requiring manual corrections.
  • Limited Language Support
While it supports multiple languages, the range may be limited, affecting non-English speakers or those whose languages are not fully supported.
  • Resource Intensity
As a feature-rich application, it might be more resource-intensive compared to simpler itinerary management tools, potentially impacting performance on lower-end devices.

  • Potential Security Concerns
Storing and managing code in the cloud can present security concerns, particularly for projects with sensitive or proprietary data, necessitating careful management of access and permissions.
  • Cost
Utilizing cloud resources can lead to higher costs compared to local development environments, especially for large teams or projects requiring significant computing power.

Another open source app with a bit of similar goal: https://apps.kde.org/itinerary/ The collaboration part is not that developed (but does exist based on Matrix as decentralized and end to end encrypted storage). That works very well is ticket extraction for hotels, train or flight + search for connection using public transport APIs. Disclaimer: I'm involved with that app. - Source: Hacker News / about 1 year ago

Looks good! I may sign up. Interestingly, I had a brief look for open source alternatives and found that KDE Itinerary[0] may do a similar thing, and that the same code has been re-used in a Nextcloud Mail extension[1]. I don't use either so haven't been able to test directly yet. But I did use a CLI tool based on the same KDE code[2] and while it doesn't output iCal it does seem to correctly extract the details... - Source: Hacker News / over 3 years ago
