Most contractor software is built around scheduling, dispatch or invoicing, and job cost ends up being a report you run after the fact - usually at tax time. JobTally is built the other way around. Every job carries a budget, and labor, materials and receipts land against that budget the moment they happen. A crew member clocks in from his own phone with GPS on the punch, and those hours become job cost and crew pay automatically. A receipt photo taken at the supply-house counter posts the store and total to the job. It runs in any phone browser with nothing to install, which is what makes it survive contact with a real crew.

The typical user is the owner himself: on site most of the day, bidding the work personally, no office manager, and today he finds out whether a job made money weeks or months later from a spreadsheet or his accountant. Companies big enough to employ a full-time project manager or a controller are usually better served by a heavier platform; JobTally is deliberately aimed at the shop that is too small for that and too big to keep guessing.

Price and packaging: $150 per month flat with unlimited crew - no per-seat fees and no tier that holds job costing back until you upgrade. Scope: it does the job-cost loop (crew hours, materials, receipts, live per-job profit, estimates, invoices, A/R aging and tax exports) instead of asking a four-man company to run a platform designed for a company with an office manager. Adoption: the crew only ever touches a clock-in button and a camera, in a browser, so there is nothing to install and nothing to train. Two honest limits worth knowing up front: the QuickBooks piece is a one-tap export you import, not a live two-way sync, and invoices track what you are owed while you drop in your own payment link - in-app card payments are not there yet.

JobTally came out of watching small contractors work. The pattern was always the same: the owner knows his trade cold, but the money side is a shoebox of receipts and a text thread of hours, and the verdict on a job arrives long after the job is over. By then he has already bid three more at the same broken number. The tools that solve this properly assume an office and someone sitting at a desktop at the end of the day, which is exactly what a four-man shop does not have. So JobTally was built phone-first and stripped down to the loop that actually decides profit: hours on the job, material on the job, and budget versus actual while there is still job left to fix it on.

JobTally is a React single-page application hosted on Vercel, with Supabase (PostgreSQL, authentication, row-level security and file storage) as the backend and serverless functions for the API. It is a responsive web app rather than a native iOS or Android build, so crews run it in any phone browser with nothing to install; clock-in works offline and syncs once the phone is back in range. Receipt capture uses OCR on the uploaded photo to pull the store and total onto the job.
