Possible disadvantages

  • Smaller Community and Ecosystem
Compared to major hosting providers like DigitalOcean, AWS, or even shared hosts like SiteGround, Opalstack has a smaller user base, which means fewer community tutorials, third-party guides, and forum discussions available for troubleshooting.
  • Limited Scalability Options
Opalstack is primarily a shared hosting provider, which means it may not be the best choice for high-traffic applications or projects that require rapid, on-demand scaling of resources like CPU, RAM, or storage.
  • Not Ideal for Beginners
While developer-friendly, Opalstack's approach can be intimidating for non-technical users. Setting up applications often requires familiarity with the command line and server configuration, which may not suit those looking for simple one-click solutions.
  • Limited Data Center Locations
Opalstack offers a relatively small number of data center locations compared to major cloud providers, which may result in higher latency for users targeting audiences in regions not well-served by the available server locations.
  • Fewer Managed Services and Add-ons
Unlike larger hosting platforms, Opalstack lacks a wide range of managed add-on services such as built-in CDN integration, managed backups with granular restore options, or one-click SSL management that more mainstream providers offer out of the box.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Invoice No. and Opalstack.

What's the story behind your product?

Invoice No.'s answer

Invoice No. was built out of frustration with existing invoicing tools that either cost money, require an account, or produce ugly PDFs. The goal was to make something that looks professionally designed, works instantly and stores nothing. It started as a single invoice generator and grew into a full suite of free document tools for freelancers.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Invoice No.'s answer

Next.js, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS and React-PDF. The entire application runs as a static site with no backend, no database and no server-side processing.

What makes your product unique?

Invoice No.'s answer

Most invoicing tools ask you to create an account before you can do anything. Invoice No. skips all of that. You open the page, fill in your details and download a PDF. Nothing is stored on any server. Your data stays entirely in your browser, which is something almost no other invoicing tool can say. It also covers a lot more than just invoices. You get receipts, quotes, purchase orders, credit notes, timesheets, expense reports and a set of calculators, all free and all working the same way.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Invoice No.'s answer

Freelancers, independent contractors and small business owners who need to send professional invoices, receipts or quotes without the overhead of full accounting software. Particularly useful for people who invoice occasionally rather than every day and do not want to manage a subscription for something they use a few times a month.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Invoice No.'s answer

If you are a freelancer or small business owner who just needs to send a professional document without paying a monthly fee or handing over your email address, Invoice No. is the fastest way to do it. There is no subscription, no trial period and no feature locked behind a paywall. You also get over 150 profession-specific templates so the form comes pre-filled with sensible defaults for your type of work.
