Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing InsiderTape and Codegres.org.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

InsiderTape's answer

Node.js and Express on the backend, hosted on Vercel (serverless). Turso (libSQL/SQLite) for the database, Stripe for billing, and a vanilla-JavaScript single-page frontend. GitHub Actions handles data precomputation and scheduled jobs. Insider data is sourced directly from SEC EDGAR (Form 4 filings).

What's the story behind your product?

InsiderTape's answer

InsiderTape started from a simple frustration: corporate insiders file every trade with the SEC, but the raw data is nearly useless to act on. It's buried in EDGAR, cluttered with grants, options, and tax transactions, and full of coordinated buys that look like conviction but aren't. Telling a real insider bet from routine paperwork took hours. InsiderTape was built to do that filtering automatically, in real time, so anyone can see the insider buys and sells that actually signal something.

What makes your product unique?

InsiderTape's answer

InsiderTape doesn't just list SEC Form 4 filings, it curates them. It automatically strips out grants, option exercises, and tax-withholding transactions, and it uniquely filters out coordinated same-day/same-price "fake clusters" (bank conversions and offerings) that other trackers wrongly show as insider buying. On top of that sits an analysis layer most tools don't have: real multi-insider cluster detection, a weekly Insider Buying Index that scores market-wide insider conviction against five years of history, backtested signal studies, and buy/sell activity plotted directly on the price chart.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

InsiderTape's answer

Tools like OpenInsider and Finviz give you the raw data and leave the work to you. InsiderTape does the filtering and the analysis. It removes the noise that makes raw Form 4 data misleading, flags genuine insider conviction (clusters, CFO buys, first-buys-in-years), and backs it with five years of backtested data so you know which signals actually mattered historically. You spend less time scraping EDGAR and more time on the handful of trades that carry a real signal.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

InsiderTape's answer

Self-directed retail investors and active traders who follow insider activity, especially value, contrarian, and swing traders. The kind of person who would otherwise scrape SEC EDGAR or squint at OpenInsider, but wants the data filtered, ranked, and put in context.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

InsiderTape's answer

InsiderTape is a self-serve subscription product used by individual investors and traders. It's not an enterprise tool, so there are no named corporate customers.
