  • Save your disk, write files directly into RAM with /dev/shm
For those interested in a windows equivalent, ImDisk [0] has a nice ramdisk creation utility with options such as allocating memory dynamically, ntfs compression, and more. For the more venturous there is GPURamDrive [1] , not as many options, as it was made as a more of an experiment, but with dedicated gpu's adding more and more vram, why not? • Transcoding to RAM disk - is it worth it?
4: Depends on our OS but on windows I used ImDisk then set the transcoding directory in settings. Those same settings are how you'd set it to a dedicated disk as well. Source: almost 3 years ago
  • Seems like you can no longer play RUST on a RAM Drive. No more super loading into RUST at 10gb/s for me :(, Stupid EAC.
Since I have 128GB of ram, https://i.imgur.com/CkBzNvS.png I like to shove my games into ram and load them very fast. Up until a few days ago it was working for RUST, but now it doesn't work any more because of EAC. On normal nvme ssd I can load into a 5k map in about good 5 minutes, but on a ram drive, I was able to load into a 5k map in a minute or two. You can check out imdisk-toolkit and a basic video on it... Source: about 3 years ago
  • Showcase: Speed difference between Plex Server on HDD and SSD
If your server is hosted on Windows you can use any RAMdisk software. I use ImDisk Toolkit. Set up a RAM disk to launch at Windows startup, set the drive letter, and in your Plex server settings > Transcoder (enable advanced settings), set your transcoder directory to the RAMdisk.
