Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Hypervector and SentryScore.

What makes your product unique?

SentryScore's answer:

Most security tools either cost thousands a month or require a security expert to interpret the results. SentryScore is different on both counts.

  • Instant, plain-English results โ€” no jargon, no 40-page reports. You get a score and a clear explanation of what it means in under 60 seconds.
  • Zero setup โ€” type your domain, get your score. No agent installs, no API keys, no onboarding call.
  • Built for non-technical owners โ€” designed for the person running a dental practice or law firm, not for a CISO. Every finding includes a plain-English fix.
  • Covers what matters for SMBs โ€” SSL/TLS configuration, email spoofing protection (SPF/DKIM/DMARC), breach history, and security headers. The four things that actually get SMBs compromised.
  • Free tier that's genuinely useful โ€” most tools lock real data behind a paywall. SentryScore gives you a real score with real findings for free.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

SentryScore's answer:

The biggest competitors in this space โ€” SecurityTrails, Qualys, Nessus โ€” are enterprise tools priced and designed for enterprise teams. SentryScore is built from the ground up for the opposite end of the market.

  • Price: Competitors charge $500โ€“$5,000/month. SentryScore starts free, with paid monitoring at $97/month.
  • Time to value: Competitors take days to onboard. SentryScore takes 60 seconds โ€” no account required for a basic scan.
  • Audience fit: Competitors assume a technical user who understands CVEs and CVSS scores. SentryScore assumes a business owner who just wants to know if they're exposed and what to do about it.
  • Scope: We don't try to be a full vulnerability scanner. We focus on the four categories that cause the most SMB breaches: SSL/TLS, email authentication, breach exposure, and security headers. Narrow scope means sharper insights for a non-technical audience.

If you're a Fortune 500 with a security team, use Qualys. If you're a 10-person law firm trying to understand your exposure, SentryScore was built for you.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

SentryScore's answer:

SentryScore is built for small business owners and operators who are not security professionals โ€” specifically:

  • Healthcare practices โ€” dental offices, medical clinics, and mental health providers who handle PHI and need to demonstrate basic security hygiene for insurance and compliance
  • Law firms โ€” small to mid-size practices handling sensitive client data, subject to bar association ethics rules around data protection
  • Accounting and financial services firms โ€” businesses handling sensitive financial data subject to regulatory scrutiny
  • Any SMB owner who has been asked by a client, insurer, or vendor to demonstrate their security posture and doesnโ€™t know where to start

The common thread: they know security matters, theyโ€™ve probably been asked about it, but they donโ€™t have an IT department or a CISO. They need answers fast, in plain English, without a six-figure contract.

What's the story behind your product?

SentryScore's answer:

SentryScore was built out of a recurring frustration.

Grant Heckman, the founder, has spent years in cybersecurity working with enterprise clients. When friends and family would ask โ€œAm I secure?โ€ or โ€œMy insurance company is asking about my security posture โ€” what do I even say?โ€ โ€” there was no good answer to point them to. Enterprise tools were overkill. Free tools were either useless or so technical they created more confusion than clarity.

SentryScore started as an internal tool to quickly assess a domain's security health for SMB clients. After seeing how much value it delivered in seconds versus hours of manual work, we built it into a product anyone could use.

The name reflects the mission: give every business a score they can understand, track, and act on โ€” the same way a credit score made personal finance legible to everyone.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

SentryScore's answer:

SentryScore is built on a modern, lightweight stack optimized for speed and reliability:

  • Backend: Python (FastAPI) โ€” fast async API serving all scoring logic
  • DNS/security checks: Native Python DNS resolution + direct DMARC/SPF/DKIM parsing
  • Breach data: HaveIBeenPwned API integration for domain breach history
  • SSL/TLS analysis: Direct socket inspection
  • Security headers: HTTP header analysis on live domains
  • Infrastructure: Cloudflare Tunnel (zero open ports, DDoS protection) + Cloudflare Pages (frontend)
  • Payments: Stripe (subscription billing for Domain Monitor)
  • Frontend: Vanilla HTML/CSS/JS โ€” no framework overhead, fast page loads, no tracking by default

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

SentryScore's answer:

SentryScore launched in early 2026. We're in early growth โ€” users include small medical and dental practices, independent law firms, and accounting offices that have used the free scan to assess their domain exposure before a vendor audit or cyber insurance renewal.

We don't name client names publicly at this stage, but our target segment is SMBs with 1โ€“50 employees in regulated industries (healthcare, legal, financial services) who need a quick, credible answer to the question: "How secure are we?"
