Features and specs

What each product offers, as listed by its team.

HoneyCup.ru 5 features
Opalstack 5 features
  • Natural product focus
HoneyCup.ru specializes in honey and related natural bee products, which may appeal to customers seeking organic or artisanal food items rather than mass-produced alternatives.
  • English language option
The site offers an English version (via the /en path), making it more accessible to international visitors who do not read Russian.
  • Niche specialization
By concentrating on a specific product category, the store can potentially offer deeper expertise, product variety, and knowledge about honey types and origins.
  • Direct sourcing potential
Specialty honey retailers often source directly from beekeepers or specific regions, which can mean fresher products and clearer traceability for customers.
  • Gift-friendly offerings
Honey and bee-product shops frequently provide packaged sets and gift options, which can be convenient for buyers looking for present ideas.
  • Developer-Friendly Hosting
Opalstack is designed with developers in mind, offering SSH access, Git integration, and support for multiple programming languages and frameworks including Python, Node.js, Ruby, and PHP, giving developers granular control over their hosting environment.
  • Affordable Pricing
Opalstack offers competitive pricing for shared and managed hosting plans, making it an accessible option for small businesses, freelancers, and individual developers who need robust features without enterprise-level costs.
  • Modern Control Panel
Opalstack provides a clean, modern, and intuitive web-based dashboard for managing sites, applications, databases, and email accounts, which is a significant improvement over older-style hosting control panels like cPanel.
  • Strong Support for Multiple Applications
The platform supports a wide variety of application types including WordPress, Django, Flask, Express, static sites, and more, allowing users to host diverse projects on a single account with easy deployment.
  • Reliable Infrastructure and Support
Opalstack is built by former WebFaction team members, bringing experienced hosting expertise. They offer responsive customer support and a reputation for stable, well-managed server infrastructure with good uptime.

Possible disadvantages

  • Smaller Community and Ecosystem
Compared to major hosting providers like DigitalOcean, AWS, or even shared hosts like SiteGround, Opalstack has a smaller user base, which means fewer community tutorials, third-party guides, and forum discussions available for troubleshooting.
  • Limited Scalability Options
Opalstack is primarily a shared hosting provider, which means it may not be the best choice for high-traffic applications or projects that require rapid, on-demand scaling of resources like CPU, RAM, or storage.
  • Not Ideal for Beginners
While developer-friendly, Opalstack's approach can be intimidating for non-technical users. Setting up applications often requires familiarity with the command line and server configuration, which may not suit those looking for simple one-click solutions.
  • Limited Data Center Locations
Opalstack offers a relatively small number of data center locations compared to major cloud providers, which may result in higher latency for users targeting audiences in regions not well-served by the available server locations.
  • Fewer Managed Services and Add-ons
Unlike larger hosting platforms, Opalstack lacks a wide range of managed add-on services such as built-in CDN integration, managed backups with granular restore options, or one-click SSL management that more mainstream providers offer out of the box.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing HoneyCup.ru and Opalstack.

What's the story behind your product?

HoneyCup.ru's answer

I started HoneyCup after watching three amateur tennis clubs run tournaments on paper and Excel. Bracket generators existed (Challonge, Toornament), but every useful format — double elimination, Swiss, groups — was paywalled, required signup, or didn't print to A4 cleanly. Coaches were spending evenings on math instead of coaching.

The first version was a Russian-language single-sport (tennis) round robin generator built in 2024. Clubs adopted it, asked for double elimination, then chess players found it, then padel coaches. By 2026 it had grown into a 7-sport, 6-format, bilingual platform — still free, still no signup required, still optimised for the "Saturday morning before the tournament" use case.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

HoneyCup.ru's answer

Five reasons:

  1. Zero friction — pick sport → format → player count → bracket. No email, no account, no credit card.
  2. Free formats that competitors gate — Swiss, double elimination, groups + double elimination are paid on Challonge and Toornament.
  3. Printable by design — A4 PDF templates that match what amateur clubs actually print and pin on the wall.
  4. Works offline — once loaded, full bracket generation works without internet (PWA).
  5. Bilingual RU/EN — first-class Russian localisation, rare in this category.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

HoneyCup.ru's answer

Amateur tournament organisers who run events on weekends and don't want to learn enterprise software. Three core segments:

  • Sports clubs (tennis, table tennis, badminton, padel, chess) — 4 to 64 players, monthly internal tournaments.
  • Coaches and PE teachers — school events, summer camps, corporate sport days.
  • Esports and chess community organisers — small online tournaments, casual leagues, office events.

Common trait: previously used Excel, paper, or hit Challonge's paywall. Want a bracket in five minutes, not a CRM.

What makes your product unique?

HoneyCup.ru's answer

No-signup, no-paywall bracket generator with the broadest format coverage of any free tool: 7 sports × 6 formats (single elimination, double elimination, round robin, Swiss, groups + playoff, groups + double elimination) = 252 ready-to-use templates, all printable as A4 PDF. Most competitors gate Swiss, double elimination, or more than 8 players behind a paid tier — HoneyCup ships everything free, in five seconds, in browser, bilingual (RU/EN).

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

HoneyCup.ru's answer

  • Independent tennis clubs in Moscow and Saint Petersburg (anonymised on request)
  • Amateur chess communities (online tournaments, 16 to 64 players)
  • School and university PE programmes (Russia, weekly events)
  • Corporate sport day organisers (office tournaments)

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

HoneyCup.ru's answer

  • Frontend: Next.js 15 (App Router), React 19, TypeScript (strict mode)
  • Backend / DB: Supabase (PostgreSQL, Row Level Security, Auth)
  • Hosting: Self-hosted VPS, PM2, nginx
  • Testing: Vitest (unit), Playwright (E2E)
  • i18n: Custom dictionary system (RU / EN)
  • Analytics: Yandex Metrika
  • Charts: Recharts
  • PDF: Native browser print + custom A4 layout CSS
