Tools like MadMapper or Resolume mean expensive licenses and desktop installs; 4mapper is cross-platform, free to start, and unlocks everything with a single one-time lifetime license instead of a subscription. You can experiment at home, in a studio or in a classroom without admin rights, IT requests or hardware dongles — and still connect real Arduino controllers and live data when you want to go further.

4mapper is an independent project built and maintained by a single developer based in Italy. It was created to make projection mapping accessible — without expensive software or complex setups — by running directly in the browser so anyone can start mapping in a few minutes. The focus has stayed on a playful, visual workflow and on giving creative people a focused tool to explore projection mapping without friction. Since January 2026 the community has passed 1,500 registered users.

A browser-based web application running on Chrome/Edge, using WebGL / GPU shaders for real-time, GPU-powered visuals and the in-browser Studio (procedural shaders, kaleidoscopes, color grading). Arduino controller support is handled over USB from the browser, backed by an open-source controller library published on GitHub (github.com/gargakk/4MapperController). The site itself is served on a PHP backend. It's fully cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Linux) with no native install
