HeirClaim helps Americans find and recover unclaimed money held by US state treasuries — forgotten bank accounts, uncashed paychecks, life-insurance benefits, dividends, utility deposits, and assets inherited from deceased relatives.

US states currently hold over $80 billion in unclaimed property, with roughly one in seven Americans having unclaimed assets in their name.

Features: - Free name-search across all 50 states plus DC at once - Automatic name-variation matching (maiden names, hyphenated names, common misspellings) - AI-generated state-specific claim documents (affidavits, cover letters, small-estate paperwork) - Optional Full Service tier where HeirClaim files claims with the state on the customer's behalf - Heir and inheritance support including small-estate affidavit and probate document workflows - Claim status tracking from submission through state payout

Pricing: Search is free with no account required. Document Preparation starts at $29 flat fee for self-filing. Full Service is contingency-based on recovery, capped at the state regulatory maximum (typically 10%), with no upfront cost.

startbase.dev features and specs

  • Faster project setup
Startbase.dev appears designed to help developers and founders quickly scaffold new projects with pre-built templates and boilerplate code, saving significant time compared to starting from scratch.
  • Focus on startups/MVPs
The platform seems tailored toward entrepreneurs and indie developers who want to launch minimum viable products quickly, which can be valuable for validating ideas without heavy upfront investment.
  • Modern tech stack
Such starter kits typically integrate current, popular frameworks and tools (e.g., Next.js, Tailwind, authentication, payments), reducing the need to research and configure these integrations manually.
  • Reduced boilerplate maintenance
By using a pre-built base, developers can avoid reinventing common features like user authentication, billing, and dashboards, letting them focus on unique business logic instead.
  • Potential cost savings
Compared to hiring a development team to build core infrastructure from scratch, using a starter template service can be more affordable for solo founders or small teams with limited budgets.

Possible disadvantages of startbase.dev

  • Limited customization flexibility
Pre-built starter kits and boilerplates often come with opinionated architecture and design choices that can be difficult or time-consuming to modify for highly specific or unconventional use cases.
  • Vendor/template lock-in risk
Relying on a specific boilerplate structure may create dependencies on certain libraries, patterns, or update cycles that could complicate long-term maintenance if the base template becomes outdated.
  • Learning curve for the specific stack
If the chosen tech stack differs from what a developer is familiar with, there may still be a learning curve to understand and effectively customize the starter codebase.
  • Uncertain long-term support
As a smaller or newer platform, there may be concerns about the longevity of updates, community support, and documentation compared to more established open-source alternatives.
  • Pricing transparency concerns
Depending on the pricing model, users may find costs less transparent or harder to justify compared to free, open-source boilerplates available elsewhere in the developer community.

Analysis of HeirClaim

Overall verdict

  • HeirClaim appears to be a niche service focused on helping individuals identify and claim unclaimed inheritances, estates, or assets owed to them, but I don't have verified, up-to-date information confirming its legitimacy, business practices, or user satisfaction levels, so I can't fully endorse it without independent verification.

Why this product is good

  • Claims to specialize in locating unclaimed inheritances or estate assets, which addresses a real need since billions in unclaimed property go unclaimed annually in the US
  • May offer a streamlined process for heirs to discover and claim assets they weren't aware of
  • Could save time compared to individually searching multiple state unclaimed property databases

Recommended for

  • Individuals who suspect they may be owed inheritance or unclaimed property but don't know where to start searching
  • People wanting a consolidated search across multiple jurisdictions rather than checking each state's unclaimed property office individually
  • Users who are willing to independently verify the company's fees, legitimacy, and reviews before committing, given the sensitive nature of financial and estate claims
  • Those who should also cross-check findings with official government unclaimed property websites (like missingmoney.com) which are typically free to use

Analysis of startbase.dev

Overall verdict

  • Startbase.dev appears to be a developer-focused platform offering starter kits, boilerplates, or resources aimed at helping developers launch projects faster, though limited independent information is available to fully verify its offerings and quality.

Why this product is good

  • Likely provides pre-built templates or boilerplates to save development time
  • May offer curated resources for starting new software projects
  • Could target indie developers and startups looking to accelerate MVP development
  • Potentially cost-effective compared to building infrastructure from scratch

Recommended for

  • Indie developers seeking quick-start templates
  • Startup founders wanting to speed up MVP development
  • Solo developers looking for boilerplate code to reduce setup time
  • Small teams needing standardized project scaffolding

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing HeirClaim and startbase.dev.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

HeirClaim's answer

HeirClaim primarily serves individual US consumers who suspect they may have unclaimed money waiting in a state treasury. This includes:

  • People searching their own name for forgotten bank accounts, paychecks, dividends, or utility deposits
  • Heirs and family members searching for unclaimed assets left by deceased relatives
  • Estate executors and small-estate administrators handling probate paperwork
  • Adult children locating assets after a parent's death

Secondary audiences include estate-planning attorneys, probate paralegals, and financial advisors who use HeirClaim to perform unclaimed-property searches as part of their client services.

What makes your product unique?

HeirClaim's answer

HeirClaim is the only consumer-facing service that combines a free 50-state unclaimed-property search with AI-generated state-specific claim documents in one place. Most competitors either charge to search (then up-sell document help) or are state-by-state government portals that don't talk to each other. HeirClaim covers all 50 states plus DC simultaneously, generates the actual claim affidavits and cover letters automatically, and offers a Full Service tier where we file claims on the customer's behalf with no upfront cost.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

HeirClaim's answer

Three reasons:

  1. Transparent pricing. Document Preparation is a flat fee starting at $29 with no subscription. Full Service is contingency-based with no recovery meaning no fee, capped at the state regulatory maximum.

  2. All 50 states in one search. Competitors typically focus on a single state portal or charge per state. HeirClaim searches every US state treasury database simultaneously with automatic name-variation matching for maiden names, hyphens, and common misspellings.

  3. AI-generated state-specific paperwork. Each state has its own affidavit format, cover letter requirements, and small-estate thresholds. HeirClaim generates the correct documents automatically based on the user's situation and the state's current requirements.

What's the story behind your product?

HeirClaim's answer

HeirClaim was founded after [the founder discovered a relative had unclaimed property held by a state treasury that no one in the family knew about / a personal experience helping family recover forgotten assets]. The process of finding the money was easy thanks to free state databases, but actually claiming it required navigating state-specific paperwork, affidavits, and probate documents that varied dramatically from state to state.

HeirClaim was built to solve the second half of that problem. Anyone can search NAUPA's missing-money database for free. The hard part is turning a search hit into actual recovered cash. HeirClaim automates the document preparation and offers a contingency-based filing service for people who would rather not handle the paperwork themselves.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

HeirClaim's answer

Next.js 16 App Router on Vercel, TypeScript, Supabase (PostgreSQL plus authentication and row-level security), Stripe for payments and subscriptions, Resend for transactional email, and AI document generation for state-specific claim affidavits and cover letters.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

HeirClaim's answer

HeirClaim serves individual US consumers and heirs. Customer identities are kept confidential as a matter of policy.
