What makes your product unique?

GroundWorks's answer

GroundWorks is purpose-built for construction and field trades, rather than being a generic project management tool retrofitted for the trades. It came directly out of real field problems: our founder's background in excavation/construction, combined with direct input from an active SUE project manager, shaped features like locate request tracking, daily field reports, and permit & compliance workflows that generic PM tools don't handle well.

It's also fully bilingual (English/French) at the data layer, not just a translated UI — useful for teams working across bilingual regions like Ontario/Quebec. And yes, it's responsive by design: the same platform works in the office on desktop and out in the field on a phone or tablet, which matters a lot for crews who need to log site data on-site rather than back at a desk.

Under the hood it's built as a modern, modular multi-tenant SaaS, giving each organization clean data isolation and the flexibility to define their own custom job types by selecting from a library of components — so a utility locate job and an excavation job can follow entirely different workflows without needing separate tools. That same modularity leaves room for the platform to keep growing (crew/equipment allocation, permits, etc.) without becoming bloated.

GroundWorks isn't a generic PM tool adapted for construction; it's purpose-built for excavation, construction, trades and SUE work, with permits, compliance, and locate requests as core features rather than afterthoughts. Organizations can build custom job types from a component library, so different job types (locate vs. excavation) follow their own workflow without extra tools. It's bilingual (EN/FR) at the data level and fully responsive, so crews can work from the field, not just a desk — and it's being shaped by direct input from real professionals, not guesswork.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Small-to-mid-sized construction and field trades companies, particularly excavation, construction and subsurface utility engineering (SUE) contractors — who need permit, compliance, and field-reporting tools built for their specific workflows, without the cost or complexity of enterprise-grade construction software.

What's the story behind your product?

GroundWorks's answer

GroundWorks grew out of a conversation with my son, who manages subsurface utility engineering projects and kept hitting the same wall: no good tools existed for planning and managing that kind of field work. Having worked in excavation myself, and coming from a family with deep roots in construction and road work, I knew the gap was real, so we set out to build the tool that industry actually needed, shaped by the people who do the work rather than guessed at from the outside.
