Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Grain and CodeFactor.io.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

Grain's answer

-Podium -Drivetrain -Zapier -Adobe

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Grain's answer

Grain outperforms competitors in revenue intelligence and deal execution. It offers deal dashboards that track customer conversations across multiple meetings, basic deal health visibility, and coaching capabilities specifically designed for sales workflows. If your team needs to monitor pipeline health and customer relationships, Grain is the strongest choice.

Unlike enterprise-focused tools, Grain offers transparent pricing and free tiers with no sales call required. It's designed for bottoms-up adoption, making it accessible for startups and mid-sized companies that need enterprise-level features without enterprise costs.

What makes your product unique?

Grain's answer

Grain offers deal-level analysis across multiple meetings, which is unique in the space. Instead of just summarizing individual calls, Grain aggregates insights from all meetings related to a specific deal or account, creating comprehensive deal dashboards with SPICED analysis, risk detection, and coaching scorecards. This gives teams a holistic view of customer relationships over time.

Grain emphasizes clip creation, playlists, and storytelling features that make it easy to share meeting moments across teams. You can create timestamped clips, build playlists of key moments, and share "stories" to highlight trends or insightsโ€”functionality that's more robust than many competitors.

Live Notes let you type notes, tag moments, and create clips in real-time during meetings. This hybrid approach combines AI automation with human judgment, ensuring critical insights aren't missed.

Grain automatically tracks conversations across all touchpoints with a specific account, surfacing trends, risks, and coaching opportunities that span multiple meetings. This transforms raw meeting data into actionable business intelligence.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Grain's answer

Based on the information gathered, here's how I'd describe Grain's primary audience:

Primary Audience Mid-market teams who need enterprise-grade meeting intelligence without enterprise complexity or cost. These are growing sales, customer success, and revenue operations teams that have outgrown basic note-taking tools but aren't ready for enterprise platforms that require long sales cycles and six-figure commitments. โ€‹ โ€‹

What's the story behind your product?

Grain's answer

Grain was born from a real problem Mike Adams faced while building his previous company, MissionU, a Zoom-based online university he co-founded in 2016.

At MissionU, everything happened on Zoomโ€”admissions interviews, research sessions, team meetings. Mike's team would conduct interviews and make decisions about applicants, but six months later when they'd evaluate whether someone was a good or bad admit, all the qualitative data explaining why they made those decisions had vanished. The insights were lost because no one could remember the conversations or review them later.

Mike realized that since everything was digital on Zoom anyway, there could be a "perfect record". So he started recording literally every single meetingโ€”admissions interviews, user research, team meetingsโ€”and built internal software to pull highlights and share them across the team.

When WeWork acquired MissionU in 2018, Mike and his brother Jake Adams (a former software engineer at Branch Metrics) recognized the broader opportunity. They founded Grain in September 2018 to solve this problem for other teams transitioning to remote work.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Grain's answer

Cloud Platform: AWS (Amazon Web Services) is part of Grain's technology infrastructure. AI & Machine Learning: Grain uses proprietary AI models for transcription, note-taking, summarization, and conversation intelligence features. The platform offers AI-powered features like Ask Grain AI, custom note templates, and trending insights analysis. Video Platform Integration: Grain is built on top of Zoom, Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams APIs to capture meeting recordings and enable real-time transcription.
