Features and specs

What each product offers, as listed by its team.

GlossGenius 5 features
Modular JavaScript 5 features
  • All-in-One Salon/Beauty Business Platform
GlossGenius combines scheduling, payment processing, marketing, and client management tools in a single platform, reducing the need for multiple software subscriptions for beauty and wellness professionals.
  • User-Friendly Interface
The platform is widely praised for its clean, intuitive design that makes it easy for solo entrepreneurs and small business owners to set up and manage their bookings without extensive technical knowledge.
  • Strong Online Booking System
Clients can easily book appointments online 24/7, with automated reminders and confirmations that help reduce no-shows and streamline the scheduling process.
  • Integrated Payment Processing
GlossGenius offers built-in payment processing, allowing businesses to accept credit cards, process deposits, and manage transactions directly within the platform without needing third-party integrations.
  • Marketing and Client Retention Tools
The platform includes built-in marketing features like automated email/text campaigns, customizable websites, and client management tools that help businesses attract and retain customers.
  • Improved Code Organization
Modular JavaScript allows developers to break down code into smaller, manageable modules. This enhances code readability and maintainability by organizing related functionality together.
  • Code Reusability
Modules encourage reusability by allowing the same piece of code to be used across different projects or multiple areas of the same application, reducing redundancy.
  • Scalability
As the application grows, managing code becomes easier with modular JavaScript. Each module can be developed, tested, and maintained independently, making the codebase more scalable.
  • Encapsulation
Modules provide encapsulation, preventing variables and functions from polluting the global namespace. This reduces the risk of naming conflicts and bugs.
  • Improved Testing
With code organized into discrete modules, writing unit tests becomes more straightforward. Each module can be tested individually, leading to more reliable and maintainable tests.

Possible disadvantages

  • Increased Complexity
Introducing modularity can add complexity to the build process, as it often requires module loaders or bundlers (like Webpack or Browserify) to manage dependencies.
  • Overhead
For smaller projects, using a modular approach might be overkill, introducing unnecessary overhead in terms of setup, configuration, and code management.
  • Learning Curve
Developers unfamiliar with modular JavaScript may face a learning curve, especially when dealing with module patterns, loaders, and bundlers.
  • Dependency Management
Relying on multiple modules can lead to complex dependency chains, making it challenging to track and resolve dependencies across different modules.
  • Performance Overhead
Modular JavaScript can introduce performance overhead if not managed properly, such as loading many small modules individually, leading to increased HTTP requests.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing GlossGenius and Modular JavaScript.

What makes your product unique?

GlossGenius's answer

GlossGenius is the all-in-one business management system for service businesses of any size. GlossGenius books appointments, fills waitlist cancellations, rebooks clients, re-engages clients who have gone quiet, and scans the business's data for revenue opportunities. What sets GlossGenius apart is that it handles the operational work automatically, rather than adding tasks to business owners' to-do lists. It is the only platform in the category with a full AI agent team: an AI Growth Analyst that surfaces revenue opportunities from daily data, an AI Receptionist that answers calls and texts 24/7 and books the roughly 50% of inquiries that arrive after hours, and an AI Marketer that writes and sends text and email campaigns that bring in more business.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

GlossGenius's answer

GlossGenius is best for beauty, wellness, and health businesses that want to grow revenue and automate admin, and it fits both single-location businesses and multi-location teams. It is a common choice for businesses switching from Square, Vagaro, Boulevard, Zenoti, Meevo, Fresha, Mindbody, StyleSeat, or Acuity. On payments specifically, GlossGenius charges a flat 2.6% per transaction, while Square charges 2.6% plus 15¢ per in-person transaction, and Vagaro's rates range from 2.2% to 3.5%+ with added per-transaction fees. Beauty, wellness, and health businesses that switch to GlossGenius save an average of $8,000 a year on payment processing alone. Unlike marketplace-based tools such as StyleSeat and Mindbody, GlossGenius keeps every booking with the business rather than exposing clients to competitors.

GlossGenius's answer

Founder Danielle Cohen-Shohet worked as a full-stack mobile and web engineer after graduating Princeton. She founded a digital receipts app company and also worked as a freelance hobbyist makeup artist.
