Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Gitpod and Diploi.

What makes your product unique?

Diploi's answer:

Diploi uniqueness is its fusion of cloud IDEs, remote dev environments, and hosting into one platform.

The platform's component-driven architecture centers on a diploi.yaml configuration file, basically a "package.json for infrastructure". This YAML spec defines the entire stack (frontend, backend, databases) of an application and deploys it online automatically.

Another feature is Diploi's support for vibe coding, with LLM support provided directly inside the cloud IDE and a seamless project import capabilities for apps built with Lovable.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Diploi's answer:

Diploi works best for people who build new web applications regularly and who maintain at least more than 5 projects in production, who are the ones to gain the most from instant context switching, where each project maintains its own cloud environment without local setup overhead. Additionally, Diploi removes the pain of onboarding contractors and switching between different tech stacks.

This includes:

  • Freelancers, serial entrepreneurs, and solo developers
  • Development agencies
  • Startups and growing teams
  • Enterprise sales teams

What's the story behind your product?

Diploi's answer:

Diploi was born as an internal tool, which began when the three co-founders, Marcus Ahlfors (CEO), Patrik Lindberg (Chief Business Development), and Tuomas Pรถyry (UX & Development) were part of Nemesys Ltd Oy Ab, a Finnish full-stack web development house founded in 2000.

There Diploi's mission took the shape of eliminating the overhead that they repeatedly encountered setting up development and production environments at Nemesys.

The company was registered as Diploi Oy in January 2024 and after building a pilot and onboarding trial customers through spring 2024, they secured pre-seed funding in September 2024.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Diploi's answer:

Diploi runs on managed Kubernetes clusters, with each deployment creating its own cluster where components and add-ons run as individual pods. The platform abstracts Kubernetes complexity while maintaining portability, and users can customize Dockerfiles to extent their component's capabilities and make future potential migrations easier to perform.

The build pipeline generated by Diploi for all projects hosted, use GitHub Actions that automatically generate optimized Docker images.

The technology ecosystem supported by Diploi includes:

  • Frameworks: Next.js, React+Vite, SvelteKit, Astro, Django, FastAPI, Flask, Laravel, Hono, Deno, Bun, Node.js, ASP.NET, Blazor

  • Databases: PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, Redis, MinIO

  • Services: Supabase, n8n workflow automation, Ghost CMS

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Diploi's answer:

  • Zero-install development eliminates "works on my machine" problems. Developers can code immediately via browser IDE or connect through SSH with VS Code, Cursor, Windsurf, or Zed. New team members can be onboarded in 30 seconds, without requiring a local environment setup to start shipping code, which is convenient for agencies, CTOs and serial entrepreneurs managing multiple web projects at the same time.

  • Predictable pricing without surprise bills or hidden costs. We charge usage-based rates (starting at โ‚ฌ0.026/hour) with no additional fees for CI/CD, SSL certificates, preview environments, or collaborators. A typical full-stack application (FastAPI + Astro + PostgreSQL with 10GB storage) costs approximately โ‚ฌ19.50/month running continuously.

  • Full-stack app hosting which allows you to run all the necessary services for your app in one server. Using Kubernetes under the hood, Diploi uses a single-cluster architecture, which runs all components (frontend, backend, databases, add-ons) together, reducing overhead compared to other services with a service-per-container pricing model.
