Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing GitLab and LlamaPDF.

What makes your product unique?

LlamaPDF's answer:

All file processing happens directly in your browser. Your files are never uploaded to any server, making it the safest option for confidential documents like contracts, tax returns, and medical records. It supports 93 languages — more than double any other file converter tool available.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

LlamaPDF's answer:

Anyone who needs to work with PDFs or images but doesn't want to pay for Adobe Acrobat or upload sensitive files to unknown servers. This includes students, freelancers, small business owners, teachers, lawyers handling confidential documents, and international users who need tools in their own language.

What's the story behind your product?

LlamaPDF's answer:

I got tired of uploading confidential documents to random websites just to merge two PDFs. Every free tool required uploading files to their servers. I realized modern browsers are powerful enough to handle PDF manipulation, image conversion, and even OCR entirely in JavaScript — no server needed. So I built LlamaPDF as a privacy-first alternative where files never leave your device.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

LlamaPDF's answer:

Next.js 16 (React framework), Tailwind CSS v4, pdf-lib for PDF operations, Tesseract.js for OCR text recognition, Canvas API for image processing, and Vercel for hosting. All file processing libraries run client-side in the browser — there is no backend server processing files.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

LlamaPDF's answer:

  • Individual users handling personal documents
  • Students and teachers working with academic materials
  • Freelancers and small businesses managing contracts and invoices
  • International users in 93 language markets worldwide

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

LlamaPDF's answer:

Three reasons: privacy, price, and language support. Your files never leave your device — no server uploads means no data risk. Everything is completely free with no daily limits, no signup, and no feature restrictions. And with 93 languages, it works natively for users worldwide, from Icelandic to Yoruba to Khmer.

Best GitHub Alternatives for Developers in 2023
While GitLab features an extensive set of capabilities, this can also serve as a weakness since beginners may find the developer tool overwhelming to begin with.
