Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing GitHub Copilot and Caspio.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Caspio's answer:

Choose Caspio when you need secure, data-driven web applications that can scale to large audiences without per-user cost. Every plan includes unlimited app users with no per-user pricing, which is meaningful for portals, public forms, partner access, member directories, and high-volume internal usage where per-seat pricing on other platforms discourages broader rollout.

Additional reasons buyers choose Caspio:

  • Built for external-facing, multi-user web applications such as public portals, customer self-service, membership systems, program enrollment, case intake, and partner reporting, not only internal team workspaces.

  • Enterprise-grade compliance available on all plans, including SOC 2 Type II certification, so regulated-industry buyers are not gated behind premium tiers.

  • Expert services when internal capacity runs short: Professional Services can design and build custom applications, and Managed Application Services can operate and maintain them on an ongoing basis.

What makes your product unique?

Caspio's answer:

Caspio is an AI platform for building custom business applications: describe what you need, and Caspio generates it, including the data model, interface, and roles, as a secure application your team fully owns, with no code to maintain. Unlike tools that only produce forms or task lists, Caspio is built around a true database-backed application model, so technical users can extend the same application through APIs, custom scripts, authentication logic, and integrations, without rebuilding on a different technology stack as needs grow. Every plan includes unlimited users at no per-user cost. The platform is annually audited for HIPAA and SOC 2 Type 2, and supports FERPA, GDPR, WCAG, and PCI DSS. Founded in 2000, Caspio brings over two decades of platform engineering to back all of it.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Caspio's answer:

Caspio is best for growing and mid-market organizations, as well as larger enterprises with regulated data, in industries like healthcare, financial services, education, and government, where compliance isn't optional. It fits teams that need secure, data-driven applications but don't have the internal engineering capacity to build and maintain every custom solution in-house, whether that's a business team with no developers or an IT department stretched too thin to take on another build. Caspio delivers fast build times, secure access, database reliability, and practical governance.

What's the story behind your product?

Caspio's answer:

Caspio’s Founder and CEO, Frank Zamani, aims to make application development accessible to everyone by eliminating unnecessary coding.

In his youth, Frank fled his native country of Iran to escape persecution against the Baha’is. After two years in Pakistan, he received asylum in the United States, where he began a new life. He earned a degree in computer science, landed a job at Microsoft, and later co-founded Autoweb.com, an early online car-buying service.

At both Microsoft and his startup, Frank witnessed valuable IT resources hand-coding common applications he believed could be created by non-developers if given the right tools. Thus, he founded Caspio in 2000 to create a platform for business users to build powerful applications quickly, and without the complexities of programming.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Caspio's answer:

Caspio's database uses Microsoft SQL Server, with an intuitive web interface to support mission-critical workloads, regulatory requirements, and global deployments without the complexity of traditional database management. With Caspio, you can trust that your database is:

  • Powered by Microsoft SQL Server for enterprise-grade performance and scalability.
  • Equipped with encryption and audit logging to support strict compliance standards, including HIPAA, SOC 2, and more.
  • Hosted on AWS infrastructure across global regions, ensuring data residency compliance and optimal performance near your users.
  • Fully managed and deeply integrated with Caspio’s ecosystem of app development, automation, integration, and directory services.

These features together provide a strategic foundation for building and scaling modern cloud applications. Whether you’re launching a single app or managing an entire portfolio, Caspio’s platform delivers the performance, security, and operational ease that IT teams and developers can rely on.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

Caspio's answer:

Caspio has worked with 15,000+ organizations worldwide, including Marriott International, Honda, Intel, DHL, Comcast, Mattel, Ticketmaster, Delta, DuPont, Dell, AstraZeneca, Stanford, Harvard, Yale University, World Health Organization (WHO), American Red Cross, Philips, IHG, Fujitsu, Morgan Stanley, ESPN, the United Nations, among others.
