Artificial intelligence is transforming debugging by accelerating bug detection and suggesting fixes. Bill Mann, Privacy Expert at Cyber Insider, recounts, “I enlisted an LLM to help me, and within a few minutes, found the offending code and sorted out a workaround.” Tools like GitHub Copilot, DeepCode, or CodeQL analyze code patterns, identifying issues faster than manual reviews. > Makes it an easier sell to devs, "you don't have to 'change' editors" and it makes setup easier if you happen to be using VSC But tying it to an editor (including VSCode) means "you have to change editors". I don't use VSCode, so any solution requiring it is a no-go. When we have aider[1], which works with any editor/IDE, I just don't see the value in trying Cursor, et al. Maybe I am not understanding something here. But there are third party options availabe that to the very same thing (e.g. https://aider.chat/ ) which allow you to plug in a model (or even a combination thereof e.g. Deepseek as architect and claude as code writer) of your choice. You don't pay monthly fee to use OpenAI models through the API. You pay per token. https://openai.com/api/pricing/ There are other CLI coding agents like Aider (https://aider.chat/) that will let you point at any model. The problem is that local models are dramatically worse than these big hosted models — I have not seen anyone claim they are good enough for these kind of tools.
