Hey everyone! This is Divyesh Lakhotia, the founder of Geeke. I am a student from India currently pursuing my Bachelor in Computer Applications. I started working on Geeke back in 2021 when I just entered my 12th grade.
Why build Geeke?
Yes, there are plenty of websites already available online for reading and writing books. But they don't offer much beyond that. Mostly they are just a downgrade and a cheap alternative to an actual book.
Even big sites like Wattpad started destroying the few extras they had and transitioned into another typical site focused more on making money rather than making the site more engaging (I had been active almost daily on Wattpad since 2017 before the community started becoming dry).
That's when the idea of Geeke was born. It felt that the internet deserved a better place for books. Ebooks may not provide the same feeling as reading an actual book but there is so much more that only they can offer.
I wanted to build a social media that is familiar to existing platforms on the internet that the young crowd loves using. But of course, modified for books!
For a long time, the idea remained in my mind alongside most of my novel plots. But here we are, at last, aiming to build the most awesome and fun place for all book lovers
Designing websites with Webflow has been an absolute delight. Its visual interface makes the design process intuitive and efficient. Https://webflow.com/ is what I blame for the fade-in on scroll module. 15 years ago it did look very polished, boutique, professional. Now that it's a module everyone can do, everyone literally does it for every module.
