Possible disadvantages

  • Smaller Community and Ecosystem
Compared to major hosting providers like DigitalOcean, AWS, or even shared hosts like SiteGround, Opalstack has a smaller user base, which means fewer community tutorials, third-party guides, and forum discussions available for troubleshooting.
  • Limited Scalability Options
Opalstack is primarily a shared hosting provider, which means it may not be the best choice for high-traffic applications or projects that require rapid, on-demand scaling of resources like CPU, RAM, or storage.
  • Not Ideal for Beginners
While developer-friendly, Opalstack's approach can be intimidating for non-technical users. Setting up applications often requires familiarity with the command line and server configuration, which may not suit those looking for simple one-click solutions.
  • Limited Data Center Locations
Opalstack offers a relatively small number of data center locations compared to major cloud providers, which may result in higher latency for users targeting audiences in regions not well-served by the available server locations.
  • Fewer Managed Services and Add-ons
Unlike larger hosting platforms, Opalstack lacks a wide range of managed add-on services such as built-in CDN integration, managed backups with granular restore options, or one-click SSL management that more mainstream providers offer out of the box.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing FreeConverto and Opalstack.

Who are some of the biggest customers of your product?

FreeConverto's answer

We welcome all customers and users to use the platform we built.

What makes your product unique?

FreeConverto's answer

FreeConverto is a free online image toolkit that lets you convert, compress, resize, crop and edit images entirely in your browser. There is nothing to install and no account to create. All processing happens directly on your device, which means your images never leave your computer and your data stays completely private.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

FreeConverto's answer

No account required — open the page, upload your image, download your file. No email, no password, no subscription tier to navigate.

✓Your files stay private — all tools process images directly in your browser using the Canvas API. Your images never leave your device. We never store, sell or inspect your files.

✓Supports all major formats — convert between JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, GIF and HEIC. Perfect for web developers, photographers, bloggers and everyday users.

✓Batch process up to 20 images — stop converting one file at a time. Select up to 20 images at once and download them all in seconds across all tools.

✓A full toolkit, not just one tool — compress, resize, crop, rotate, filter, pick colours and view metadata — all free, all in one place.

✓Works on any device — Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android, tablet. No software to download or install. Just open your browser and start.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

FreeConverto's answer

FreeConverto is built for anyone who works with images and needs a fast, reliable, no-fuss toolkit. The tools are used daily by a wide range of people:

✓Web developers and designers converting images to WebP or AVIF to improve website loading speed and Core Web Vitals scores, and using the colour picker to extract exact brand colours from designs.

✓Bloggers and content creators using the Image Compressor and Image Resizer before uploading to WordPress, Squarespace or social media, and applying creative filters to make posts stand out.

✓iPhone and Mac users converting HEIC photos to JPG so they can share images with anyone on any platform without compatibility issues — and stripping GPS metadata before posting publicly.

✓Small business owners who need to quickly optimize product photos for their online store, add watermarks to protect their work, or convert images to PDF for documentation.

✓Students and everyday users who just want to convert, compress or resize a photo quickly — free, online, no watermark, no sign-up, no hassle.

What's the story behind your product?

FreeConverto's answer

I got tired of searching for a simple way to convert images online and landing on sites that made me create an account, slapped watermarks on my files, or tried to charge me for something that should be free. Every tool I found had some catch — a daily file limit, a forced email sign-up, a subscription to unlock batch processing, or a file size cap that meant the one image I actually needed to convert was always just over the limit.

So I built FreeConverto — a completely free online image toolkit that works instantly in your browser, requires zero sign-up, and never stores your files. Whether you need to convert a JPG to WebP for your website, compress a PNG for email, resize photos for social media, crop to an exact aspect ratio, or batch convert HEIC photos from your iPhone to JPG, FreeConverto handles it in seconds.

It started as a personal project and grew into something genuinely useful. If it saves you even five minutes of frustration, it has done its job.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

FreeConverto's answer

Every image tool on the site runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript and the HTML5 Canvas API. This means your images never leave your device — they are processed locally and no data is ever transmitted to any server at any point.
