Features and specs

What each product offers, as listed by its team.

Framz Cloud Cost 5 features
AWS Lambda 6 features
  • Cost Visibility
Cloud cost management tools like this typically provide visibility into cloud spending across multiple providers, helping teams understand where money is being spent.
  • Potential Cost Optimization
Such tools often identify underutilized resources or recommend rightsizing, which can help reduce unnecessary cloud expenditure.
  • Centralized Dashboard
Having a single place to monitor cloud costs across different services or providers can simplify financial oversight for engineering and finance teams.
  • Budget Alerts
Many cloud cost tools include alerting features to notify teams when spending approaches or exceeds budget thresholds, helping prevent cost overruns.
  • Multi-Cloud Support
If the tool supports multiple cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP), it can be valuable for organizations with diverse cloud infrastructure.
  • Scalability
AWS Lambda automatically scales your application by running your code in response to each trigger. This means no manual intervention is required to handle varying levels of traffic.
  • Cost-effectiveness
You only pay for the compute time you consume. Billing is metered in increments of 100 milliseconds and you are not charged when your code is not running.
  • Reduced Operations Overhead
AWS Lambda abstracts the infrastructure management layer, so there is no need to manage or provision servers. This allows you to focus more on writing code for your applications.
  • Flexibility
Supports multiple programming languages such as Python, Node.js, Ruby, Java, Go, and .NET, which allows you to use the language you are most comfortable with.
  • Integration with Other AWS Services
Seamlessly integrates with many other AWS services such as S3, DynamoDB, RDS, SNS, and more, making it versatile and highly functional.
  • Automatic Scaling and Load Balancing
Handles thousands of concurrent requests without managing the scaling yourself, making it suitable for applications requiring high availability and reliability.

Possible disadvantages

  • Cold Start Latency
The first request to a Lambda function after it has been idle for a certain period can take longer to execute. This is referred to as a 'cold start' and can impact performance.
  • Resource Limits
Lambda has defined limits, such as a maximum execution timeout of 15 minutes, memory allocation ranging from 128 MB to 10,240 MB, and temporary storage up to 512 MB.
  • Vendor Lock-in
Using AWS Lambda ties you into the AWS ecosystem, making it difficult to migrate to another cloud provider or an on-premises solution without significant modifications to your application.
  • Complexity of Debugging
Debugging and monitoring distributed, serverless applications can be more complex compared to traditional applications due to the lack of direct access to the underlying infrastructure.
  • Cold Start Issues with VPC
When Lambda functions are configured to access resources within a Virtual Private Cloud (VPC), the cold start latency can be exacerbated due to additional VPC networking overhead.
  • Limited Execution Control
AWS Lambda is designed for stateless, short-running tasks and may not be suitable for long-running processes or tasks requiring complex orchestration.

Overall verdict

  • AWS Lambda is a strong choice for developers looking for scalable, event-driven applications with minimal management overhead. It is particularly beneficial for applications that experience intermittent traffic or unpredictable workloads.

Why this product is good

  • AWS Lambda is a popular serverless computing service because it allows users to run code without provisioning or managing servers. It automatically scales applications by running code in response to triggers such as HTTP requests, changes in data, or system events. This can significantly reduce operational overhead and costs, as you only pay for the compute time you consume.

Recommended for

  • Developers building microservices or serverless applications.
  • Companies looking to reduce infrastructure management.
  • Startups wanting to quickly deploy applications with limited operational costs.
  • Organizations needing to integrate with other AWS services for a comprehensive solution.
  • Projects with unpredictable or variable workloads that require automatic scaling.

Questions & Answers

As answered by people managing Framz Cloud Cost and AWS Lambda.

How would you describe the primary audience of your product?

Framz Cloud Cost's answer

UK companies spending roughly £2,000 to £30,000 a month on AWS, usually between 10 and 100 people. The person who gets in touch is normally a CTO, a head of engineering or a founder who suspects the bill is too high and has nobody whose job it is to check. Most common shapes: SaaS products, software agencies, e-commerce, fintech and data teams.

What makes your product unique?

Framz Cloud Cost's answer

The price is fixed and the evidence is published. £499 for the audit, and free if it does not find at least 20% of your monthly AWS spend. About 70 automated checks run against a read-only role, then a person verifies every finding before it reaches the report.

We ran the same scanner against our own AWS account before selling it to anyone. It found $293.82 a month of savings on $8,746.75 of spend, which is 3.4% and fails our own guarantee. The whole result is published unedited at cloud-cost.framz.io/demo.

Why should a person choose your product over its competitors?

Framz Cloud Cost's answer

Most products in this category sell a dashboard and leave the deciding to you. This produces a report you can act on: every finding names the resource, what it costs today, what the fix saves, the risk, the effort, and the evidence the number came from, sorted by saving against effort.

Pricing is a flat £499 rather than a percentage of spend or a per-seat licence, so the cost does not scale with the size of the problem. Twelve of the calculators behind the checks are free with no signup, and the full audit checklist is published, so a first pass costs you nothing.

What's the story behind your product?

Framz Cloud Cost's answer

We built the scanner to answer the question for ourselves. Before charging anyone for it we pointed it at our own AWS account, and it came back with 3.4%, below the threshold we now guarantee. We published all 105 findings resource by resource anyway, because a mocked-up dashboard proves nothing and a real result that fails our own test proves the scanner is not flattering us.

The pricing came from the same reasoning. A fixed £499 with a guarantee means the incentive is to find real money once, rather than to keep a subscription running.

Which are the primary technologies used for building your product?

Framz Cloud Cost's answer

Next.js App Router on AWS Amplify Hosting, TypeScript throughout. The scanner is an AWS Lambda deployed with SAM that assumes a read-only cross-account IAM role in the client account and runs its checks against the Cost Explorer, Compute Optimizer, CloudWatch and resource APIs. MongoDB Atlas for storage with findings encrypted at rest, Amazon SES for email, Cal.com for booking.
