No description of Forthgreen yet.
Most server backup tools fall into two extremes: either you write fragile bash scripts and cron jobs that fail silently, or you pay $50/month for bloated enterprise software that demands root SSH access to your servers. Vecta is the unbloated middle ground: a centralized web dashboard that...

As answered by people managing Forthgreen and Vecta App.
Vecta App's answer:
Vecta Backup operates on a strict Zero-Trust, Bring Your Own Key (BYOK) model. Unlike traditional backup services that require root SSH access or store your cloud keys in their database, Vecta uses an open-source outbound pull agent. Your cloud credentials (AWS S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2, SFTP) and encryption passwords stay stored strictly on your local machine. The web dashboard coordinates schedules and tracks run metadata without ever having access to your underlying backup data or secrets.
Vecta App's answer:
Most backup solutions force a choice between two extremes: expensive enterprise SaaS platforms ($30–$100+/month) that demand full server access, or fragile DIY bash scripts that fail silently. Vecta Backup provides the ideal middle ground:
3-click setup via a 1-line installation command (up and running in 60 seconds).
True block-level deduplication powered by Restic, saving up to 90% on cloud storage bills.
Outbound-only agent architecture (no open inbound firewall ports or shared SSH keys).
Real-time progress percentage streaming and automated email alerts on failed runs.
Vecta App's answer:
Vecta Backup is built for Linux system administrators, DevOps engineers, freelance developers, and small web agencies managing fleets of VPS instances (Hetzner, DigitalOcean, Linode, AWS). It is ideal for privacy-conscious developers and homelab enthusiasts who want automated, verifiable point-in-time backups without SaaS lock-in or security compromises. It is not meant for large enterprise use, requiring complex access setups and redundancy.
Vecta App's answer:
Vecta Backup was born out of founder frustration with custom cron backup scripts. After experiencing silent script failures and realizing that most existing backup SaaS platforms demand full SSH access and cloud credentials, the founder set out to build an unbloated alternative. The goal was to pair the battle-tested deduplication and encryption of Restic with a modern, lightweight control plane while ensuring all encryption and storage keys remain strictly on the user's host.
Vecta App's answer:
Backup Engine: Restic (client-side encryption, chunk-level deduplication, snapshotting).
Agent: Python 3, compiled into a standalone Linux binary using PyInstaller.
Backend API: FastAPI (Python), SQLAlchemy, asyncpg, croniter, and Resend for transactional email alerting.
Database: PostgreSQL (Supabase).
Frontend: React, TypeScript, Vite, Tailwind CSS, and TanStack Query.
Deployment & Security: Docker, Caddy/Nginx reverse proxy, automated security auditing via OWASP ZAP.
